Pedestrian Gate D

We also got redirected to PGA last year, as we did the previous year as well. I woudlnt be surprised if that happens again. We will be leaving Bristol at 3am so potentially arriving to the car parks either orange or pink around 4am. If we pack trolley quickly we may be able to make the shut off time which you think is 4:30am right?

Would assume it's how far the queue snakes back, rather than a defined time. The actual time would probably vary year to year.

I think they just shut it off when it gets to the roadside.....what time that happens to be can be anyone's guess, last year was 4.30am though.

This! Time is irrelevant really,it's all to do with the queue length.

Could well be open by 09:00 tbh, they just need to get the queue down, although I am not sure why as I have queued for Gate D on the top of the field before for hours 🤷‍♂️

Gate D was open and basically free-flowing at ~10:30am last year. We spent roughly 30 minutes snaking through it, with the occasional stop and wait, and were at the campsite and setup by 11:30am.

There was someone setting up next to us that had been queuing since about 5am at Gate A and they almost started crying when I told them we only queued for half an hour 😂

Did you get to the gates/queue at 10.30am or park up at 10.30am?

Okay - my times were a little bit off, but not by much.

But I'll reconstruct the timeline according to my WhatsApp history

10:13: "Parked in pink. Traffic wasn't terrible"

10:59: "We're nearly at the front!"

11:13: "And we're in!"

12:01: I sent a photo from my tent with a (slightly warm) cider in my hand

Tbf, that was the quickest I've ever moved through a queue. It might have been a fluke, but I hope to reproduce it this year.

None of our group has trolleys, and we're fast walkers, so there was no faffing around once we'd arrived.

Oh well if you're on and have the chance would you update the state of the queue please? Last 2 years as I have approached the Gate A/D Junction, Gate D has been closed like 30m before I got there, which quite frankly almost brought me to tears at this age and hauling this much stuff. (I did manage to blag my way through last year though) but the first year I had to go from Gate A to basically Sticklinch 😞

What time was this?

Nice one - our aim is to park up in Pink at around 10.30am, head for PGD and hope for the best.

If we’re arriving by coach at roughly 4-4.30am on Wednesday, do you think we’re best to stick with gate A or try to make it to gate D? We’re aiming for Paines as normal but first time using coaches and hence being dropped at A. Heard there la a priority for coach arrivals, so wondering if it’s better to stick and then beetle our way through the site to Paines

Stick with A - You'll be much further up the queue than if you walked round to D and its only 10-15 or so mins walk back the other way.

Plus as you say there is a priority for public transport arrivals.

I didn't know there were coaches that arrived that early! 😮

Could still well be shut at 9am if it was particularly long when they closed it. Flip of a coin, really

You say that but really the queue isn’t that long! Taking into account I was the last in the queue I was at the gate at 08:31 🤷‍♂️

(just checked the time I took the photo 😂)

The place where the snake will be at D is fairly small so queues would end up going down the hill to the car park. I'll let you know here if they plan to shut it to manage it (between doing my gate stuff obviously).

I really do think the management of this side needs to be altered/improved.

The vast majority of people are arriving either pre-8am or shortly after on the Wednesday,  either the PGD queuing system needs to be largened somehow or some sort of contingency that if you send over spill to PGA they aren't just left in a holding pen for hours on end due to prioritising public transport arrivals.

Don't do what I did in 22 - got pointed up the hill where everyone was queuing by the stewards, so dragged my heavily laden barrow all the way to the top and then realised the snake went all the way along the top of the field, and then having traversed the top of the field saw that it went all the way back down the hill again. I was so annoyed I sacked it off and went and joined the Gate A queue which was about 50m from where my car was parked

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
