Of course she is.

I'm not trying to beef with you, like I think she's a talented artist (clearly not for my demographic) but she is ultimately a pop star. Just recently listened to both her albums (since the glasto rumours) and it's a definitive teenage break-up pop album 😂

That said, the first song 'Brutal' is a certified banger and certainly has that pop-punk rock vibe. I loved it.

I'm not anti O-Rod in the slightest but I just feel like they've struck a way better balance this year between that kind of stuff and naughties indie rock / classic rock which for me is the soul of glasto (or at least the thing I identify with the most).

Your latter point about the balance being just right I agree with. I think its a cracking line up.

But the O-Rod live experience is to all intents and purposes a rock show with a live band and continous Beatles in Hamburg thrashing.

Sure there's a blurred line between rock and pop - but that exists for all rock acts who're less heavy than Slayer.  But it only ever seems to become a sticking point when women pick up the guitars.

Not really. Most of the people who classify Olivia Rodrigo as pop would also have the same issue with bands like 1975 on the lineup or Scouting for Girls for example.

Rolling Stone fell off years ago, this doesn't mean jack. And I say that as someone who's seen Olivia live and liked her.

I agree that as an appeal to authority its pretty played out.

Kathleen Hanna and Kim Deal have both written effusive articles about her, which may or may not hold more sway.
