Guessing this makes them unlikely?

Yeah... probably an indication they are both doing some European fests but Download once again misses out. Seems to happen quite a lot with the UK probably due to the exclusivity rules Download enforce for bigger bands.

No idea if the headliners I've been told are true but if so, there isn't a "classic rock" headliner next year. Not sure I trust the source though but those asking for a new headliner will be happy at least if it does turn out true

Spill the beans. If it might not even be true then no harm done. It’s not even like anyone will believe it or take it as gospel anyway.

That would be kind of shift I'm not sure Download would risk. Certainly I wouldn't go but obvs that just me, but it would be a big move away from its core audience.

Avenged are a Download staple now

MCR would be one of the biggest bookings the festival could get as would Green Day. Yeah, having both of them in one year looks radical, but it isn't really. MCR would get the reception of all conquering heroes now and would be high on the priority list for the 25-45 age group that makes up the majority of the audience.

I mean I think it would sell very well but the MCR crowd is not the same as the metal crowd who traditionally go for bands like Metallica, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Tool, SOAD. So a good chunk of that crowd, who make up probably 50% of the 25-45 you mentioned, would stay home or go elsewhere. And yeah they'd be replaced by new fans. It's just whether Download would risk that as once they stay home/go elsewhere it's harder to get them back next year.

I listen to all of those bands and have seen them all live and also listen to MCR and have seen them live. I don't think that most rock and metals fans are as narrow minded as they once were. All my friends that have been to Download and like metal also like MCR. I think they would be very popular and to say 50% wouldn't go because of MCR is mind boggling.

I mean I'm the opposite, I listen to all those bands but not MCR, and most of my friends don't like them either. My gf does tbf. Just goes to show! And Im not saying 50% of existing crowd wouldn't go sorry for the confusion. I meant 50% of the metal crowd....which I guess make up 50% of the overall crowd?

Edit: as in they wouldn't go without there being a big metal band headlining. I don't count A7X. I believe they actually have had some of the lowest attended days at Download when they've headlined before (especially 2014 was apparently dire though I dunno if they got a bump in 2018 cuz so many went for GNR?)

Although your comment would suggest something like A7X - Green Day - SOAD

I wouldn't have took that from what he said. Green Day are a new headliner but they've been around.

I took it as something like A7X, SOAD and FFDP getting the bump up.

@Spiral_LowI don't think Blink. If he is right, he didn't sound overwhelmed by it when mentioning Green Day and although different to Blink it's the same vein. I think Blink would have been booked up before Download lost either Maiden or Rammstein.

He said classic rock meaning there’s not an Iron Maiden/Def Leppard/AC/DC type band headlining. If it’s not Blink or Green Day as a new headliner then I’m struggling. Maybe MCR but still no news of them doing anything next year. There’s no way FFDP headline.

A7X - MCR - SOAD

I promised I wouldn't say which was a stupid promise to make, it could get their friend in trouble! Like I said though, this could all be complete nonsense

Something I think is safe to say, I've not seen a single person on Reddit, any forums or Facebook get all 3 headliners in the same prediction which is interesting.

Also they're saying to expect an announcement around the 7th of November so if that turns out to be correct, my belief in what I've been told will skyrocket!

I definitely think there is more chance of MCR than Blink-182 but not something I particularly put much weight in, nor does my bank balance haha.

Avenged have grown in size since the 2014 headline set and definitely had a bigger crowd in 2018. As they haven't played the UK since Download 2018 they will be a very big draw for Download. I get the new album is divisive (I think it is great), but people will turn up to hear them drop the hits. They are one of the few bonafide metal headliners Download will still have by the end of the decade, so they need to diversify and bring new headliners in and MCR one they really need.

Would Green Day or Blink be more palatable to you and your mates than MCR?

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
