Didn't need convincing any further, but Manchester on Saturday night further underscored credentials. Obviously their own crowd, but reckon there's enough casual earworms and radio hits in a ninety-minute set to absolutely knock it out of the park.

I haven't stopped humming and singing random bits for a week now.

There's some serious pop nous in there. Can do rock, for whatever elastic definition you want, with aplomb, but even the left-field stuff has hooks for days.

Given they've been adamant about wrapping up at the end of the European run for a stint, and given there's lingering talk that EE is not a huge fan of them for one reason or another, it would be a bit of a stretch.

But I'd be delighted with it, I won't lie. Think, five records in, they've got the makings for a terrific set there - and in part, that is dictated by the fact you'd have to lose some certified bangers if they did it on the next record.

That said, if they were to do it on the new album cycle...

But if they got no other good options, then the personal taste of the festival director becomes less relevant. It could still happen.

Even with the current chat about the festival struggling for headline options though, EE is clearly reaching for others before considering them. That's my only consideration.

Granted, groups like Kings of Leon have the back catalogue, but not exactly a booking that suggests currency hand-in-hand with commercial power. That's one thing The 1975 definitely have for now.

Can’t help but feel that when / if they headline, Too Shy would be the perfect opener. Worked so well at Reading ‘22.

To be honest, the Reading set is near perfection. If they were to do Glastonbury on this tour, you could play that exact set with maybe one or two tweaks - toss Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy)People and I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes), and throw in Oh Caroline, About You and something else. (People one of those songs that could make-or-break momentum in a show.)

Agreed on two counts, but you can’t drop I Always Wanna Die! Arguably their best live track

A bias, perhaps, as it is one of my least favourite fixtures live 😂

Love a large majority of material they put out, but that's an inferior rehash of Fake Plastic Trees to me.

The general lack of Frail State Of Mind since the pre-NOACF shows in early 2020 has been sad. Such a banger

Aye, that's a corker. I think the move to play most of Being Funny in a Foreign Language has led to some of their best shows, but a return to a typical format likely brings in a few other singles from earlier records.

Bring a massive fan and seeing this show multiple times & more to come in Europe! But I would love to see the whole house show on the pyramid and not just at their very best! Well maybe tone down the consumption bit etc and I think you’ll get a lot of people secretly loving it but cannot openly saying they did!

See, it's an impressive bit of stagecraft, but you'd need to rectify it even more than the Still... At Their Very Best approach.

The 1975 (BFIAFL Version)
Happiness
Oh Caroline
Love Me
I'm in Love With You
A Change of Heart
Robbers
About You

I Like America and America Likes Me

Reckon 18 songs max? If they could push it out to 21, I think something like this would work nicely. No need for the house, just have the ATPOAIM stage setup + a greatest hits set. This gives you a split of 4, 4, 6, 3, 4 from each of the 5 albums, which feels about right to me. It does neglect the EPs, but I guess the pyramid wouldn't necessarily be the place for deep cuts.

  1. If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)
  2. Sex
  3. Happiness
  4. TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME
  5. Love Me
  6. Oh Caroline
  7. Paris
  8. Robbers
  9. About You
  10. I Like America and America Likes Me (Real World Version)
  11. It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
  12. Me & You Together Song
  13. Heart Out
  14. Somebody Else
  15. Frail State Of Mind
  16. I'm In Love With You
  17. Chocolate
  18. Love It If We Made It
  19. I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)
  20. Give Yourself A Try
  21. The Sound

Anyway, can't see them being booked (this year at least), but one can dream!
