U.S. Presidential Election

Were US pollsters always so partisan or is this a noticeable development during this particular election cycle?

I think there have always been Republican backed polls that put their fingers on the scale, but there seems to be an influx of them this year and they’re working overtime to release new favourable Trump polls whenever positive Harris polls are released.

Is pretty hilarious that they’re essentially gaslighting their base and making the loss even more crushing, but then it’s all to feed in to the rigged election story and appease Trump.

Sad that this isn’t even really news. He did it last time and he’s doing the exact same thing this time. You’ve just got to wonder what the plan is this time given he’s in a weaker position to steal it now that he’s not President and he failed miserably last time.

He has sentencing later this month so I think he'll keep pretty quiet until then. There may be unrest, but it will likely be smaller and more localised rather than in DC.

When he loses, I expect he'll be out of the country before inauguration day, and very possibly before his sentencing.

Yeah, this stresses me out. Trump knows it's all part of his populist/fascist playbook, but a huge amount of americans really seem to believe this sh*t. It's playing with fire.

Doesn't have the same civil war uprising theme as last time, the militias don't seem as obviously prominent as before. It feels more like he'll try/fail the legal challenge route and drag it out as long as possible.

I really hope you're right, that would be a good result all round. I can imagine a lot of attention though given to the 'true president in exile' narrative but I just can't see the chance of a coup in the US especially given the number of generals, Cheney etc coming out against him. Hilarious if he went into exile in Russia.

That said, it's easy to forget the US is a pretty young country and perhaps now is the time he feels he can break the system and rule unfettered with the encouragement of half of the country...

    • Crikey.   I remember Muse cancelling a Lolla headline set in 2017 due to a massive thunderstorm after only 3 songs. Clearly this is an area of the world where the storms don't f**k around.
    • I still think they might take another shot at the normal weekend.    I'm also pretty sure this exact same speculation was happening after the last one.
    • Meanwhile in Chicago. Rained overnight at Lolla. Now they pushed back opening til the afternoon. But thunderstorms and lightning forecast. Maybe if the city invested in proper drainage they couldve tried to salvage the day.
    • Wasn't just me who thought it was either oversold or inadequately setup for the event then? For Pride, over the weekend, where there's also acts in the large blue marquee that was to the right of the "arena" (for want of a better term), it's probably much better as people are dispersed more. Thought the band were great, as was Nick, though he was clearly struggling with his voice at times.
    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
