Capacity

Dose anyone know the capacity this, and previous, years? I'd heard it had been increased to 28/30k from 25,000 last year but then heard maybe not. I know the current multi year license was unto 35k and they were working up to that. I remember one year's increase as it was definitely busier.

Thought this year worked well, probably as Glow kept a load down that end. Bars and most venues managed well (Houseparty as time being the exception by all accounts), toilet did not though.

They haven’t sold anymore tickets  in 2017 or 18 but that still doesn’t mean more people weren’t on site . I would say that from the layout changes this year a modest 2.5 to 3 k might be attempted next year and every penny of the increased revenue should go on music .

Agree with this. Didn’t feel busy to me. Plenty room anywhere I was.

Was only down the glow tent end once and it was busy but easy to wander around.

Huge improvements up at woodlands since 2012 mean there’s loads more to do and see over a much bigger area.

One thing to remember though, the site held up well to the weather. Probably due to the good weather in the months before. In previous years, big sections have been written off to serious mud.

I was working there and was told that the capacity was 30,000 this year.  Whist also corresponds with a video Cumbria Police did about their operation there - they said an increase this year to 30,000

Think I’d previously said the site couldn’t handle these types of numbers. I was wrong.

The arena is massive now compared to 5/6 years ago. Also,  I got in and out this year without stopping so they seem to have sorted the access problems from previous years.

Mud wiping out areas of the arena remains their biggest issue for me but there is not much they can do about the weather.

If they get the same numbers in on Thursday next year then they should open more bars. Missed a good chunk of craig Charles queuing in the real ale tent.

You could definitely see an improvment to the hill and below it to the right of the main stage, you could see they'd put drainage in there and the usual lake that normally appears didn't this year, agree it's hard for the rest of the site, especially going from main stage to valley of beats way

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
