Incident in London

That makes the effort even more amateurish and shows the desperation of the attackers even more.

RIP to those lost.

Probably not worn to be amateurish tbh. The wearing of anything that looks like a suicide vest would create panic amongst victims whilst pretty much guaranteeing their 'martyrdom' for their cause.

Fuck off Donald. Like he would know anything about "getting smart" on how to tackle this.

Erm he does have a certain point although maybe it could be put better, may I ask you to take 1 minute and imagine a close friend of yours or family member had been a victim last night and then consider what needs to be done.

I am not saying I have the answer or that Trump does but I think people should consider the seriousness of the current situation from both sides.

This makes no sense whatsoever.

If a close friend or family member had died I would've thought my emotions would make me one of the least qualified people to come up with a solution on how to solve an extremely complex problem.

If you want proof that not every family member would respond the same, have a look at how Dan Hett (brother of Martyn one of the Manchester attack victims) responded.

He doesn't have a point whatsoever. If you think he does, why not be explicit about it and say what exactly you think his point is?

He's made no point, as usual. He's a vacuous waste of air.

You said "Fuck off Donald", with a pic of a tweet he sent suggesting that Khan's advice "No reason to be alarmed" was in fact true. Where the oppposite is totally true, people should have been very very alarmed.

Also the inference that "if we dont get smart it will only get worse" was also wrong, when in fact he's right (for once).

From this I can only assume that you dont think more serious measures need to be put in place. That or you were just having a dig at Trump for the sake of it (who could blame you) but in fact on this occasion Trump appears to have nailed it.

Haha yes he is, but what Khan said was bullshit and inconsiderate. Also Trumps point about getting smart is valid, although I agree he hasn't said exactly how but then who does now how ?

Its just so so so sad. There is no way of stopping these attacks either. It is just impossible to prevent an attack like last night. Where do we even start to get to grips with it? I just don't know what to think anymore. So many lives wasted for absolutely nothing, it is truly heart breaking.

The mayor of London was speaking to his entire city, and by trying to reassure people and minimise panic he's doing his job. There really are bigger issues here and Trump's specific attack on Khan is about a lot more than his choice of words.

What does 'getting smart' actually mean though? It's pretty much a useless soundbite

Well maybe the "getting the smart" thing is just to wishy washy but I can see where he is coming from.

Re Khan, I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree, I have nothing against the man personally and my statement would be the same had it come from The KLF, it's a stupid thing to say, people should be alarmed it promotes vigillance and will ultimately help stop these kinds of attacks.

I would think that getting smart means rooting out extremism relentlessly wherever it is in our communities, instead of not doing so for fear of being seen as un-pc. Which I guess is was the PM was saying.

How has political correctness stopped us rooting out terrorism and extremism? I'm genuinely curious what people mean by this

Every single vacuous thing Trump says on this topic is meant to rile up support for his stupid fucking illegal Muslim ban via fear. He should be given no credit for anything close to an intelligent thought on the subject

Well sadly though that is almost as bad as Trumps attiude towards things, just because someone is 99% of the time a dick, it does not mean that 1% of the time they can be right. You must always keep an open mind no matter where the comment/action/idea comes from.

Well if the rest of Trump's tweets are anything to go by 'getting smart' means a travel ban and some tenous point about gun control. The man's an arse. His input is does nothing to help the situation in the UK and his comments should be ignored.

No, I really mustn't.

Dearie me. Sorry but you must be pretty simple to take Donald's words at face value like this.

Sadiq Khan didn't use the words "no reason to be alarmed". He didn't use those words at all. Even the Daily Mail article which has reported Trump's tweet has acknowledged this.

This is Khan's statement:

Quote

“One of the great things about our way of life is our democracy,” he said.

“Elections are a wonderful thing and that’s one of the things that these terrorists hate and one of the things that we can do to show we’re not going to be cowed is by voting on Thursday and making sure that we understand the importance of our democracy, our civil liberties, and our human rights.”

On a broader sense though, while Khan didn't say the words "no reason to be alarmed", part of the job of being a leader is to provide reassurance for their citizens. Terror begets terror, people don't commit these acts terror primarily to take lives. They commit acts of terror to sow fear, discord and disunity in the population. The lives lost are just their way of achieving this. And the job of a politician in this scenario is both to mount a strong response but also to neutralise those attempts and provide reassurance and promote unity.

But the point is that Trump has no idea of how to get smart - particularly on this. His answer is a travel ban which has been ridiculed from all sides of the spectrum as being a wholly ineffective way to combat terrorism, let alone the various other objections people have about it.

He's linked terrorism and immigration at a recent NATO conference, despite most refugees being home grown. He's linked refugees with terrorism, again despite very few terrorists claiming refugee status.

I may be happy for more serious measures to put in place, but the question is what measures? If these people were coming into the UK like the 9/11 attackers did specifically to commit these attacks this might be easier to solve. But a whole lot of people talk about "more serious measures" when some of the finest minds in counter terrorism have been working on this for decades and still haven't found a way to stop this.

lol fair enough but that's just as prejudice which is I thought the point you were trying to make against Trump ?

Trump is prejudiced against 1 billion muslims, and I'm prejudiced against Donald Trump. This is a bullshit false equivalence

I have to wake up every day and find out what new way this imbecile has dreamed up to destroy my country. I don't need you telling me to give him a chance because he might accidentally stumble upon a  coherent thought once in a blue moon

Ok well you posted a Tweet with a quote in speech marks ? unless I missed it you didnt say it was wrong ? if that's the case than I am happy to take back my comments I was not aware he had been missquoted as I had only seen what you posted.

I still think your second point though was just a dig at Trump though as something does need be done but nobody knows what to be honest. Including him, obviously :)

You will however notice that I dont go calling people names "Simple" and the like whilst debating such issues, for it could be said that posting a quote without mentioning it was wrong could also be seen as .......... Well you get my point :)

I didn't tell you to give him a chance ? I just pointed out that you were also being prejudice.

Even the sun shines on a dogs arse once in a while :) and that is aimed at Trump :) not you.

    • Not sure if this has been mentioned but new La Roux album out November - was meant to play in 2020 but hasn't found her way back onto a lineup. If any excuse just to hear this absolute banger on the fields next year!
    • Yeh, the quiet camping also seems to be on the same side (broadly) as the bits of the festival that go on the latest (Far Out / Chai Waalahs / RTT until 4am). We're always in Tangerine Fields which is right behind the main stage and as soon as that and Rising Stage are done it's pretty quiet (midnight onwards) which I'd guess is pretty similar if you can hack taking all your gear from the car past the big tree in the middle and into the campsites that side.
    • Can't see Bimble line up anywhere - am I being dense and missing an obvious release somewhere?
    • Not expecting a tour imminently but Peter Gabriel would fit the vibes magnificently.
    • I have but a very long time ago and can remember nothing about it at all. Which I suppose is a review of sorts
