Bizloaf
My wife and I are both teachers and we can't get the 'whole' time off work unfortunately, so we won't be getting there until early Friday morning ETA 6.am (driving from newcastle). It's our first time to Glastonbury and we'd love some advice please. Will we still be able to get pitched in a suitable spot and how long can we expect to walk (on average) to it? Will there still be queues at 6am? Any advice would be much appreciated..thanks x
bexj
Wow, a long drive after work for you... hats off to ya, loads of teachers just don't bother! So you'll be best heading for West carparks ... but the walk to gate A or D will certainly be long...bank on it being a mile. From there many of the immediate fields will have space to camp but you will some campsite stewards pretty soon who will advise you as to where the best space is. You'll be a way from anything but to be honest at Glastonbury you're always a way from anything. The plus side is that there will be absolutely no queue at all. Hope you love your first Glastonbury, it's an amazing place x

As an aside I would consider carefully the impact your travel plans on your enjoyment of the Friday and Saturday. There won't be a huge amount going on at 6am, maybe aim to arrive a little bit later to get some more kip in a bed rather than the field. Then you can hammer it for a couple of days. Enjoy :-)
parsonjack
Same advice as above...West camping fields such as Pylon, Rivermead or Bushy generally have space all weekend, and although a little way out are quieter, mostly flat and with no hills between there and the West carparks. Have a great first Glastonbury....it will change your life
ivan
At 6.00 am there should be no q's and you will get straight in. Please use the campsite gurus that you will see at the entrance . They are there to advise you which camp sites have space and which are full and the quickest way to get there . If you can't see em just ask but they usually have an old caravan to make em easier to find. One peace of advice I would give is don't take too much stuff . Excluding booze if you can't carry it in one rucksack you have too much . I think that causes most problems as it tires you out and slows you down . If you park up get your rucksack on you should be through the gate in an hour taking it steady.

Enjoy :-) I would disagree with that ! I would try and get on site for first light about 4.30 am you should have your tent up for 6 then you can go for a wander and take it all in . There will still be plenty to see especially the ravers that are still at it

My Crew camp overlooks that field and I have never seen it full - I can understand why people miss the space as its not easy to see from the path. But there will be. the bottom shot is the top of the field { taken on the Friday } Just leave the bags with your wife and take a look ' once your on that path ' there is likely to be more space ' on your right { top of the field } ' - walking time from Gate D will be 5 minuets and 5 minuets hunting time and 5 minuets for luck. Sure its not close to any of the action but when you depart you will have less of a walk back to your car. If I was not working at the festival and arrived by car that is the field I would pick mainly for the shorter walk back to the car.

Thanks for this mate, it's all starting to get a little clearer now, I like the idea of getting back to the car quicker cos we've got to do a shoot after the Sunday headliners to get back to Newcastle and ready for work for Tuesday! Thanks again!

Thanks again! in that case take a strong light with you ' and check under your car !!! ' one year I was parked right next to Gate D { in the crew car park } and had to leave at 3.30 am Monday morning and lucky enough I had my torch on and there was a glint from the rear - as I got close I found 12 glass bottles of lager hidden near the rear wheel . now where they came from and when I don't have a clue - All I know is if I had not spotted them I would have got a puncture for sure. and I am amazed no one had not spotted them in the daylight but the car next to me may have blocked peoples view. if you are sure you will want to leave then it may be a good idea to pack up early - leave the stuff in the lockup at the bottom unless you can get it all in the boot. shame there is no lockup next to gate D. ivan
I would like to add that the campsites have a lot more room over the last few years than in the past. Oh were the sites crowded back in the day. But i think now with more campaing areas , more off site camping and more people in the Camper Van fields it is eaiser to get a decent pitch more than 2cm from your neighbours tent.
