*yes I planned the engagement to coincide with the fallow year

**no, she doesn't know

no all you have to do (if you don;t have them already) is plan breeding around the next fallow year.

A mate of mine is making moves to start up festival catering and has spoken about me staffing for him when I'm home from work so I'm hoping to at least be at a couple of smaller festivals working. I'd love to do Boomtown too, only heard good things about it.

He needs to be aware of the cost of a pitch at bigger festivals. A mate of mine who used to run an excellent Indian Veggie Curry stall at Glasto pulled out a couple of years ago when GFL increased the price of his pitch to £18,000 - and that was the cost before he'd paid staff, bought ingredients or sold a single veggie curry.

Nevertheless it's worth getting your food hygiene certificates in the bag just in case.

That's a lot of money for a pitch Grumpy!

The guy in question is just in the process of selling his successful catering van so he already has his certificates and is fairly confidentthat he can make a go of festivals. I have nothing to do with his venture by the way and merely offered to help out if I was home from my regular job and he was short staffed. He has already started enquiring about possible pitches for smaller festivals next year and hopes to do a couple of the bigger fests in 2018. It remains to be seen if he can make it a success but I think he's pretty confident in making a good go of it.  He's also been talking to the guy that owns Ghandis Flip Flop (who I believe is retiring) and is aware of the huge costs (and other stumbling blocks of getting a pitch at somewhere like Glastonbury.

One of the things I love about festivals is the excellent food.  I can't understand people who head for the burger vans when there's usually so much good stuff to be had:  Flip Flop, La Grande Bouffe and No Bones Jones are always Glasto musts for me.

Same here, proposed whilst travelling earlier this year, Mrs wanted wedding in 2017, I thought there's absolutely no chance of me missing the last Glasto before fallow, particularly as I didn't go this year either, so I said "I'd rather it be 2018 so I can save more and plan it better..."etc., she agreed. Bingo! Do you have a date? April 7th ours is.

Many thanks!

I should have mentioned one other big advantage is ' its very close to Southwold ' now I am not into seaside towns but its well worth a trip as they have some cracking Fish and Chip shops - as the new general crew camp was in a area we had never seen before one big concern was if we would be able to slip out and back in without hassle - my team had two cars so we used the other car to straddle two parking places so we knew the space would be still there when we got back.We were out and in each day and we did not see any festival traffic - I know it sounds nuts as we had two meal vouchers per day but the fish and chips is just too good - as soon as we got the tents up we were straight down to Southwold - by the Sunday the town was packed with workers - I must have ran into 30 people I know from the WBC. its very rare that I leave Glasto while its on as its a right pain in the arse getting back in but at Latitude there is no hassle at all.
