My mate did it for 3 years, first 2 he enjoyed, good shifts, pretty much done by Friday. But the lat time he did it he was at Worthy View and had to lug punters stuff from the gate. He was proper broken by the end of it, and had to deal with some proper arrogant twats too.  He's not working for them again.

Talking to a few staff at WV last year, it sounds like they had long, tough shifts. Especially as staff camping was at the other end of the site (40 mins plus walk in good weather). Not every punter at WV is an arrogant twat, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few.....you wonder why they come to a festival!!

Cool cheers people. They have emailed me asking if I would like to be considered to going to the site the Friday before and have all my shifts done by Wednesday morning. Of course I said hell yeah! 10 days of glasto and the whole festival to do what I want. Let's hope I get it.

If you've got the time to spare beforehand, that's pretty much living the dream.

You will really enjoy your first night back in your own bed though!

I only live a 20 minute drive from the site so if I get a day off before the Wednesday I could always pop home but I probably won't. Got a mate putting up some of the big tents and he will be in a camper so it's all gravy!

It's not really 10 days of glasto in the sense that some people might think - there's no scheduled entertainment etc of course, and most of the people on site will be working towards getting everything ready for Wednesday morning (a lot of stuff is/seems last minute) - as a result a lot of areas may be fenced off as they're basically construction zones. So when you've not got a job to to, during the day there's not a lot to do other than walk around.

For the first couple days your food options will likely be limited to staff catering and what you've brought with you - Traders etc will generally arrive Sunday or Monday, and some will be open on Monday, some more will be open Tuesday. Some of the staff bars will be open for all 10 days, but before the Festival tend to be about the Evenings, ie once people have finished their work for the day.

Not that I'm saying don't do it, but just be aware that it's not the same as an extra 5 days of Festival. I arrived on Monday lunchtime ish in 2015 and that's about the earliest I'd personally want to go unless I had a specific reason to be there early. Getting to walk around early is great and definitely worth doing. But - and this is something I never thought could be said about Glastonbury - time can drag if you've got a lot of it spare.

That's worrying to hear. It's my first time in worthy view this year, and I am an absolute delight. I promise to be nice honest.

Yeah fair one I understand that but if it means I have the whole festival to do what ever I want, I'm happy with the not having much to do before hand and also I'd rather be bored at worthy farm than being stuck at work. Also because I'm local I know a fair few people who will also be there so we can be bored together :)

Crew bars will be open by then. If you ask, many of them will give you a wristband or three, so you and your friends will be able to enjoy the slightly cheaper drinks there during the festival.

I'll be on site (recycling crew) from the Sunday- 1st time I've been on site before the gates open and will be done by the Thursday which will I'm looking forward to.  I did wonder what kind of stuff would be open/available before the public arrive so good to see some info here

I don't normally take a stove or the like with me but may well do this time even if it's just for cuppas and pot noodles
