ARGHGHHHHHHH

We wanted to let you know that this Sunday, October 5th, you won't be able to make payments using online, mobile or telephony services for a few hours while we are making some improvements. Between the hours of 3:00am – 11:00am payment and transfer services will not be available but you will still be able to view your accounts.

We wanted you to know in advance so you can also plan ahead and make any payments or transfers you need to before Sunday morning.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

don't worry too much.

The transactions don't go thru to the bank in real time, at the moment you make the orders.

Instead they're batched up and put thru when See are able to do them - I think because See are on a charging plan which only lets them put thru so many transactions in any day.

That makes sense. In previous years the money has come out of the account later in the day.

Think I'll ring them anyway as would hate it to go wrong if I get through!

Guys, chill.

I'm not making this up (given my e-commerce techie chat), but I also used to work for RBS Internet Banking and this was very common (monthly, at certain times). It'll be an update to that system and it needs an extended outage to do it.

It won't affect you being able to use your cards, it won't affect 3D Secure.

It's just payments using online banking.

And, relax....

Yeah, as someone said it doesn't sound like it impacts debit or credit card payments, only internet banking, mobile app or telephony payments.

Always good practice to have a backup payment method anyway, cause any bank's IT systems can experience an issue at any time.

Just spoke to them and it won't effect debit cards - the girl I spoke to said it better not as she's trying also and had a slight panic when she read it and checked.

And Relax - Sorry guys n gals for additional stress - I'll get you a drink at the bus ;)

It's not just rbs. All banks have to update and maintain there websites. If they stopped people using their cards every time they did this their'd be chaos and bedlam on our streets. It'd be Apocalyptic!! ;-)

To be honest, we used to make updates sometimes once a week, but it was done in a very small window - 2-2:20am when internet banking is down anyway. 2am-11am means it's a reasonable change and needs testing before being brought back up, and enough time to back it all out if it's gone tits-up.

In reality, 11am is the latest it all has to be back, it's often well ahead of that.

Cards will work.
