Reading Tip & Tricks

Its not long till the festival now, and I was wondering if people had tips and tricks for Reading.

What's the best campsite? Are some toilets better than others? What food stalls are nice and not too over-priced? Any shortcuts between the stages? Where are good places to stand for a good view and sound? Are there some parts where you can generally get closer to the front (eg. At Download for the 3rd stage if you go all the way around the tent to the right its usually emptier and you can get closer)? What's the late-night entertainment like? Good meeting points?

posters cant tell you what the best campsite is as really its all down to what your expecting - be it quiet or hectic.
There is some shortcuts { not in distance but in time } but unless you have a crew wristband you will not reach them.
The best part about Reading is not the festival at all but the close proximity of the Town so you can get the best of both - people will dip in and out to suit their plans .

From my memory, you arrive midday on the thursday you'l be fine.

For some reason Red fills up first, probably because alot of goers are lazy and will pitch up at the first place they see...

Last year I arrived on the wednesday but by midday thursday there was still a hefty queue at the entrance and if you didn't want a camping spot that was pretty tight, you were looking at brown. I actually camped in Brown then but we did have a wander round the other areas and that was the conclusion we came to.

Dunno if anyone will see this but I have two questions as well?

1) If you go to the tent for instance in the middle of the day and try and get back to main a bit later will you be able to find your way into the crowd for a decent space? Equally, will you struggle for a good space heading to any stage across the weekend?

2) What's the phone signal like; can't imagine it will be as bad as some festivals that are situated in the middle of god knows where but can you actually use a phone to contact mates etc.

1) Getting a decent space is easy, except SOMETIMES for a headliner (any stage), but watching the sub usually guarantees you a good space. Getting to the barrier is a lot harder, but a decent space is easy.

2) Mostly fine, you can use a phone to contact people, but you'd struggle with interneting. Basically the number of people there means it's sometimes more difficult than you'd expect.

    • NIN and Bjork for sure 😉
    • When are  the stage splits ??
    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never been the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them after Thursday & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
