Another version of a diversion (We live In Corsham in Wiltshire and will be using this route):

M4:

Come off at Junction 17 for Chippenham and exit roundabout at 2nd turning (for Chippenham). Down to roundbout (2 miles down)

Dont go into Chippenham - take second turning (A350). Stay on this road. You'll pass near Melksham, Trowbridge and then just after Warminster turn onto the A361 which takes you to Shepton Mallet. It would take you to Pilton itself if the road was open. From the M4 its about an hour and 20 minutes normally. From the M25 - about 2 1/2 to 3 hours total. Assuming no hold ups obviously.

Its the way we always go - only time we were seriously delayed was in 2009 when the whole thing fouled up with the M5 problems.

Never understood why folk go down the M3 and the A303. Asking for trouble on the A303 - there always seems to be problems

Selfish idiot - this message board does not exist to provide just you with information you know

Seriously if that wasn't a purposeful wind up then it's time to reconsider a few things.

I'm very grateful for the news - had been waiting to ask about traffic chaos until later tho. There's always something

Glad to be of assistance :)

Very much East nowadays.

Its good for Campervan East (and then Gate C of course) or the car parks that lead to Gate B.

You used to be able to continue into Pilton and get to the West side and Gates A and D as well - but its been a few years since that road was open at least at the times we've arrived

If yr staying in Chippenham - come out heading for Bath and the A4 - you'll hit the A350 after a couple of miles (probably at a Sainsburys on a big roundabout). If you start heading for Calne and Devizes youre going the long way round. Unless yr at the Premier Inn (big assumption I know) - youre already on the right road then.

Enjoy Chippenham. Somebodys got to,

Yes we're staying at the Premier Inn - it was cheap, in our defence! :) We might sample the delights of Chippenham on Tuesday night to watch the football, or is that a very foolish idea?! :D

We were hoping to try to get to gates A/D this year as we usually end up at gate C, but to be fair it's probably more hassle than it's worth!

Ah perfect - that sounds good to me!

I think we got cash out near Blockbusters last time & that brief visit to Chippenham should have put us off really. I've been meaning to take a diversion through Lacock for years for one reason or another so we'll do that. And last minute supplies run in Morrisons too - result!
