The Port

[Dubious Morals]

Hello all.

I missed Bestival last year, having been in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The big news last year seemed to be The Port. What's it like? Where is it? Did it replace something? I'm having trouble picturing it in my head.

I'm not sure if it replaced something in particular? (Someone correct me on this though if I'm wrong!)

It's right at the bottom of the field with the helter skelter thing and the toboggan ride in, It's bloody brilliant.

I was very surprised by how big the crowds were, some of the DJs got absolutely massive amounts of people, it's sorta hard to picture unless you see it in person, the pictures don't really do it justice haha.

It's amazing, it's a dry-docked boat with a DJ booth cut out of it, and two decks which are generally populated by dancers and fire breathers. Oh, and flames come out of the funnels. There's also a crane situated next to it, which is used for aerial acts who fly above the crowd. And at night it has the most incredible laser shows I've ever seen.

It's where Pig's Big Ballroom used to be (and where the main stage was back in the early days); Pig's Big Ballroom has now moved to where the roller disco used to be, and last year was done up nautical style, as if it was a ship's ballroom.

I didn't like the crane it looked like they were still building the set , I know it was for the acrobats but they could have dressed it up

I would have just done away with the crane. The acrobatics didn't really do it for me. The Port is probably the best area of any festival i've been too. In my opinion it beats Arcadia.

How is the sound? Normally open air stages are a bit naff, and that looks bloody massive to boot.

I heard that it was 4/5am finishes this year. Guessing the port will be 4 and the big top possibly an hour later if we're lucky.

I had to get out of there Friday night. Great venue though.
