Maximo Park

Yeah they could play, I love them as a singles band but not as an album band

They charted number 7 this year, no? That surprised me somewhat as they always struck me as a band that fell off a cliff around 2009 when they were no longer cool. But I'm glad to see the strength of their incredible singles has carried them to a healthy career.

Saw them play at the Sebright Arms pub in London last week, which was the first time I'd seen them in quite a few years. The old energy was back, they played loads from the first album, and the songs from the new album sounded excellent live. I'd like to see them in the John Peel tent rather than on the Other Stage, think they would get a better reaction inside

is it really a big departure though, it just sounds like maximo park with more twiddly bits on it to me. thats not a bad thing mind, if they play they're definitely on my level 2 priority bands to see (theyd lose in a clash against the top priority bands like AF, national, pixies, kasabian, prince) but other than a drunken inability to get to their gig they should be seen by me i think :)

would be about 4th/5th on the other stage these days by popularity. could headline john peel i guess but JP likely to go for someone a bit more current for that i'd have though.

havent made the effort to check out the new album and didnt get into national health, their older stuff remains great tho. i will make the effort to go over the newer stuff and will probably see them on their upcoming tour.

definitely not as big as they were as they havent sold out anywhere apart from london (only the forum too) and newcastle (hometown gig)
