Car park

Ive managed to get tickets this year, first time at Glastonbury. What are the car parks like safety wise? Im tempted to drive down in my taxi but I've been wary of using it for other festivals, some people I've been with have been broken into in the past although I've always been fine. Are the car parks about the same as at other festivals (but bigger)?

I did look at that ashcombe Park and ride, bit of a pain adding a bus to the trip tho, anybody used that before?

i've never had a problem in the car parks, but use usual common sense - don't leave valuables on view, leave your glove box open, use the lock ups for any valuables that you don't need. The car parks are vast, and people are challenged if they are seen to be loitering about, but that said, in darkness you can't be too careful.

Cheers, sounds about on par with the other fests then?

That's one of the problems with takin a taxi, there's bits I can't really take out that look like they might be worth somethin but they're not really when you take them out.

I've been to every Glastonbury since 1986 in my car, and never once had it broken into, and no one I know has had their car broken into.

Having said that, I guess it probably happens but I'd say there's no greater chance of it happening than there is in any town.

Only car problems I have had at a festival was Leeds 2004 when I got back to the car park and some dick and stood on my bumper (I can only imagine this is what happened, as I didn't see it). The bum[per was hanging off when I got back to pack the car.

No problems @ Glasto though.

The only car parking problems we've had were in one of the years of great rain. Our cars were parked at the bottom of the hill and when we got to them we found six inches of water inside. Astonishingly we managed to get them started but huge plumes of water shot out of the exhausts as the engines fired up.

As others have said you should be fine. However, if my car was also my living, I would be tempted to use Ashcombe Park because it is secure 24hr patrolled parking. They say they run a bus to gate A for a quid, but from what I can tell from their map, you could easy walk to gate D from there. Folks will park in the normal carparks and have further to walk to their tent than that I reckon. Then once you're in you can chill and not be worrying. It's the same price I think and they also have showers if you fancy a walk back to it over the week.
