I reckon it's vital to remember that sales figures, especially in the light of Lou Reed carking last week, mean precisely fuck all. Velvet underground sold appallingly, Oasis sells a shitload.

And the Eccentronic Research Council can't shift 300 copies of their latest 7". It's a c**ts' game.

people are idiots. High sales generally means shite music, as it indicates more idiots are buying the music. Idiots like shite music because they are idiots.

Occasionaly there is the odd proper band that unites the masses of people with proper music taste, but it's rare as these sorts of sensible people have diverse tastes.

It's basic stuff.

Wow, that's pretty stunning stuff. High sales = possible indicator of quality argument dismissed as non starter, to be replaced with high sales = shite music bought by idiots. Brilliant.

And what constitutes a 'proper' band? Or 'proper' music taste? No doubt an act that has sold 8000 albums, never had a top ten hit, is generally 'misunderstood' and makes 'challenging' music.

It's pretty much bang on the money. The majority of big sellers in any media in the UK are the lowest common denominator because that's what the public want. Be it games, film, music, books etc.

Sounds a bit like a smug minority dismissing the tastes of a happy majority. Sniping at the ill educated masses as they listen to their meat and potato music while you listen to music and enjoy films from a higher intellectual plain?

Nope. I'm quite happy to declare my appreciation for Girls Aloud/Eastenders/FIFA etc. etc.

It's good for its purpose, which is the "fast food" thing, of being easy to consume, nothing much to think about, and leaving you with a sense of self loathing afterwards, and I'm pretty sure Noel and Liam realised this about Oasis.

One of the better things Liam mumbled incoherently in recent years was his regret that Oasis didn't actually do anything different and challenge themselves, and essentially made the same record for several years, just with increasing levels of Cocaine. Noel has said previously about how he knew things would sell as soon as soon as he wrote them, which is essentially because of the knowledge of what sells.

I usually (not always) look out for something that is a bit challening. You're just showing how marvelously inverted snobbery works now

    • It was never going to be great was it, there is comments of Mickey Mouse all over socials lol which is very similar to Glastonbury.  Someone I know from RIP watched Welcome to the Jungle and left and they went saying they've got to see GNR. It was the only day not to see out as well.
    • I decided to goto bed early for the Aussie game rather than stay up for Scotland. I don't regret my decision, I also love the complete over reaction during the world cup when a player has 1 good game, that Watford winger is now everyones dream signing. Its also funny when clubs get into the hype and end up overpaying for someone who then does nothing in the prem.

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
