great thread.

happy Birthday ME

In 2007 I met a woman in Bristol who told me that she was in hospital as a teenager, ME knew and visited the person in the next bed and got talking to this woman. She told him she'd love to go to the festival one day. Somehow ME got her details and a few months later a Glastonbury ticket arrived for her.

When I met her it was years later and every year a ticket was sent out to her. I don't know if she still gets one but what a man indeed.

(just wish I had met him that day too)

I had a really nice correspondence with Mr Eavis a few years back, I think it was the first year that the photo ticket system was rolled out (before the cancellation insurance was introduced). One of my party fell ill about 2 weeks before the festival and needed an operation, so couldn't make it any more. I tried contacting the Glastonbury Festival office to try and sort something out with the spare ticket, but I was told nothing could be done. As a final roll of the dice, I hand-wrote Michael Eavis a long, rambling letter explaining the situation, and asked whether instead of wasting the ticket we could transfer it to another person so no-one would be out of pocket. I didn't expect any reply, but a couple of days later I got a phone call super-early in the morning (about 7am) from Michael himself, asking me to post the ticket directly to him at the farmhouse along with any details of the other person who wanted to come and he would sort it out for us. Sure enough, a few days later we received the new ticket. To personally organise something like that approximately two weeks before the start of the festival, when he must have been super-busy, struck me as a very kind thing to do. It was easily the coolest phonecall I've ever received too! I sent him a thank-you card and donated some money to Water-Aid. I suspect he wouldn't do this kind of thing any more though as you can now insure your ticket very reasonably when you buy it!

The photo company emailed me about half an hour ago to see if I was satisfied with what it would possibly look like. I looked at the sample section they posted and can't really be too sure how it's going to look. I told them to carry on regardless and make the foam backed poster (quite large it is) because I had no option other than to proceed. I'll let you know how it looks when I get it, and will also post a photo. I suspect it'll take a week before it's delivered. Here's hoping it doesn't turn out to be too bad.
