The Drumming at the Stone Circle

My first Glastonbury was 2000. Myself and my friend decided to go about a week before and picked up our tickets from a little booth somewhere on the way (those were the days). Didn't know much about Glastonbury as there wasn't anywhere near the publicity and information about it than there is now.

When I first got in the place blew me away and we had a fantastic weekend. One thing we noticed was the constant drumming. Didn't know where it was coming from but it was audible all the time (when it wasn't drowned out by music). So on Saturday night after the headliners had finished we decided to follow the sound. As we got closer to the green fields it got louder, so on we went and eventually came across the stone Circle with about a dozen people playing bongos. It was amazing, the view was spectacular and the atmosphere surreal. (No gas canisters that I noticed). The drummers took turns swapping about so the drumming never stopped the whole weekend. It was brilliant and all the more so for being totally unexpected. We sat up there for a couple of hours watching and listening with little camp fires all around.

Nice 1, I much prefer the drumming to the sounds of the NO2 cannisters going fffsssshhhhhh all night long.

2000 was my 1st Glasto, I never made it up to the stone circle though but I can imagine it has changed loads in 13 years.

Edit: I remember seeing the drummers up there in 2004, along with loads of people swinging those fire things around (1 girl set her her alight after she mistimed the swing)

I can't recall hearing many NO2 cannisters in 04, I defo think the atmosphere has changed up there though.

The drumming doesn't seem to be as constant now. I think the thing then was that they wanted to go the whole festival with drumming all the time with no breaks at all. (I expect they had a rota)
