One of our group has been searching for train fares and she's found them cheaper on Sky Scanner,

I know its normally a cheap flight searching site but they search for train fares too ,,, might be worth a shot

You can do multi-buy. Or look for 'open return' tickets that can be cheaper.

I was looking at going on the tuesday afternoon,it was only £14.50 from padington one way.

Its out of order that they double the price the next day.

Its £27 for a cheap day return from Cambridge to London which is only 50 odd miles away so doesn't sound that bad to me either! All trains are expensive which is why many still use cars to get everywhere.

It might be worth trying a website called red spotted hanky. My mates all bought their train tickets from there together and it worked out as less than £30 each for a return from Cardiff as it was a multi-buy.

If you have a network railcard you can use it for the part of your journey that is still in the 'network southeast' area.

I've just had to pay out £188 quid to get from Sheffield to Stevenage for a meeting... fortunatly I will get the money back from my employer, but that is taking the piss.

Its about £45 quid off peak return from Sheffield to Birmingham.

I've always thought FGW's London-CC fare is a bit toppy.

London - Birmingham is £27.50 off peak return on Chiltern main line. About the same distance as Castle Cary, less than half the price.

Been a terrible rip off and there were very few advance cheap train tickets. Ended up booking coach tickets due to the price of the train from Manc to Glasto.

Did everything everybody said, signing up for updates when advance tickets go on sale and recieved nothing, tickety split and all the others sites worked it out at about 60 quid and overall it's just poor from whoever is in charge of setting these prices. Completely outpriced myself and three friends who are coming and it's ended being a very dear do. Only for glasto...

Or nationalise it, and cut out the overheads like leasing all the trains from banks etc etc.

I think £65 from London by train is really cheap, especially so close to the festival. It's £55 via coach straight to the festival, so you're only saving £10.

Just split it into 2/3 tickets and you'll save quite a bit. I did that for mine and got it from £43 to £27. Quite good fun working out all the combinations too!
