Wouldn't you be better off getting a taxi to Bristol Airport, otherwise you've gotta pay for parking for a week and retrieve your car after the festival?

Credit to you for effort! but its barking mad, in the sense of eco friendly. I think GF need to re-think the coach ticket sales. Dont get me wrong Im all for offering coaches as people dont drive etc and people would still choose this option, but its crazy!!

It's part of their licensing agreement, they have to offer them. It's to cut down on cars on the local roads.

see that wouldn't work for everyone why, well for instance I live in North Wales (Bangor) but I'm getting the coach from Sheffield (150 miles away) why? Because I'm from Barnsley originally and if the weather forecast for Glasto is looking bad I'm going to leave my little one with my mum who lives there. If I had to get a coach from somewhere closer to where I lived it would cause more hassle and aggro

It's not going to work for everybody and nor it should but it would stop people, including me, buying tickets from places they are miles from. Maybe restrict it to routes ie those from Newcastle can buy from Manchester but not Edinburgh?

^{There are many reasons why people may want to travel from somewhere other than the point nearest to their home area. Baby sitting is one,travelling with a group of friends from somewhere else is another, Being in another part of the country due to other commitments - work/family/holiday etc.}

^{However - none of this precludes the idea that people could register for a coach ticket, nominating their own departure point, and the coach companies could work out how many coaches they need to leave from each departure point after that.}

The OP story is pure and utter madness, not on the OP part but you know......

It seems simple to me. If the Festival have to sell a number of coach tickets then the Coach packages should be on sale in the 1st October tranche & left on sale til all sold. You get a choice of departure points, London, Birmingham etc. See or whoever it is can then go a book the coaches according to demand. It's not rocket science.

When they asked for comments & suggestions just after the 2nd sale last week, I emailed the following suggestion to the Ticketing people at Glastonbury Festival :-

"Why not allow people to pick their favoured destination at ticket-sale time and allocate coaches AFTER the sale based on destination demand."

And received the following pathetic response :-

"Hi John

Thanks for your email

Unfortunately the logistics of sufficient coaches all across the country, willing to do the journey to and from Glastonbury, make this suggestion infeasible.

The options are put out there and people will do what is most convenient for them, and in the long run the number of cases such as the one given by the OP are going to be relatively few I would think (i.e. detours on this scale purely to enable people to get coach packages).

When it comes to the green side of things let's not forget about the numbers of people coming purely for the festival from places such as the USA, Canada and even Australia that I've read about on these pages. Notwithstanding the fact that people coming from abroad have no choice but to travel thousands of miles (and I would do the same if I had to), in the big scheme of things a few detours in order for very committed people to get access to the festival they love via the only remaining option open to them are fairly insignificant IMHO. When tickets are as hard to come by as they are, should someone be ultimately prevented from going to Glastonbury purely because of where they live?

Even with no regulation on departure points, coaches and other public transport options are probably still going to work out better for the environment overall, even when detours such as the OP's are factored into the averages.
