Pretentiousness

must admit that i've been guilty of this in the past also, but not so much to look cool, but to just end the conversation about the band rather than have whoever's talking to me explain what the band sound like, that i'd really like them, that i should check them out etc. i like to discover music for myself, not have it talked at me

also i think if i had a camera shoved in my face at a festival i'd pretty much agree with anything the interviewer said lest i come off stupid - obviously it'd backfire in this case

wouldn't have attempted to go into depth about a band that i didn't know about, mind

Yeah I feel a pang of sympathy for them, but it quickly fades :)

I think with me I've been in a group of people who wanted to show they know more about music than me, so spend significant time reciting all of the bands they want to see and how great they are. i've just nodded in agreement, rather than hear them scream dramatically "You've not heard of 'Waste outlet pipe', what planet have you been living on!?"

I saw this last night and couldn't help to think it was fake, the interviewer's voice sounds like a voice over that has been put in after the interviews have taken place. The mic is always under the mouths of the interviewees yet the interviewer's voice is clearer than theirs.

I wouldn't call myself the most "indie kid" out there but I do remember one Glastonbury with a mate who would forever go on about how indie he was and how his 18th birthday was at some super cool indie Manchester club blah blah. Come Glastonbury I was the only one with a vague "itinerary" of stages and bands I wanted to see (not really obscure at all) and whilst I was dancing around/singing along he looked lost.

We then went to Franz Ferdinand (who I know and like enough but not mad crazy about) and that was the one band he knew....and he was dancing around saying things like "come on you must know this song", "dont you like this, why not?". To keep the peace I just smiled - in fact I had already seen them years before him
