Hi everyone its my first year going and would very much appreciate if people could explain what the different areas etc are? Like Arcadia, field of Avalon, naughty corner, shangri - la? Apologies for my overly naive self, but everyones gotta start somewhere.

The Naughty corner is the unofficial name for the for the late night south east corner which takes in Shangri la,Block 9 etc.

As a newb try not to go there straight after the last acts finish on the main stages though as the place is packed with what we call ''tourists'',people that go there for a look and then turn in for the night,at this time of night its impossible to really enjoy the place but go there for about 2ish and it is a bit more freed up to explore this wondrous and hedonistic place,if your a night owl that is.

A lot will become clear from the programme you get on arrival. You'll have an up-to-date map and, if you arrive on Wednesday, plenty of time to read it through and walk the site by daylight to orientate yourself.

haha that's too far away, too excited for patience.

And to everyone else, cheers for the advice. Think gonna try n go from place to place on wednesday and thursday, then probably return to places we like the look of. And i'll keep the avoiding tourists advice in mind, even though i will be as shameless a tourist as the rest of them.

Expecting a rather large shock to the system on arrival due to being use to leeds for the past 3 years.

get lost.... I mean that in a serious just wander about and don't look at a map, see what magical strange things you come across... my first year I wandered through greenfields at dusk and made the executive decision to turn left at every junction I got too... that was the most random, awesome night ever

I'm all for going for an extensive bimble around and stumbling over places you might not otherwise visit but I still reckon it's worth being able to find your way home at the end of the night.

Work out your tent location by triangulation to fixed objects like roads or pylons. Don't rely on "it's next to that big blue tent" because when you try to find your way home there will be loads more big blue tents.

I think we've done this before, but incase you missed it:

Pyramid - commercial rubbish and past it has-beens

Other Stage - indie landfill

John Peel - over hyped flavour of the month newcomers

Park - hipster nonsense

West Holts - token ethnic minorities

Leftfield - champagne socialists

Stone circle - flash mob meeting point/gas ingestion point - dress code: hunter wellys

"Naughty corner" - full of 18 year olds who have bought fake MDMA pretending to be off their faces (2 hour queue to get in + bouncers. "the glastonbury sprirt")

Spirit of 71 stage - no one knows, as no one has ever been to it

etc

etc

Ahh, looks like il be avoiding the naughty corner and leftfield then, but will be dabbling in some commercial rubbish/ indie landfill/ over - hyped flavour of the month. May even check out the token ethnic minorities if the mood takes me.

This is my first glastonbury too, someone advised earlier that you could just wait a couple of hours before you head into naughty corner. So if main acts finish 00.00, it will be a lot easier 02.00 then the initial rush. can always eat some delicious food or have a pint while waiting i guess.

after hours activites is a big part of glasto and I definitely wouldn't want to miss out on it :)

Ye i know, was half joking as dont think the leftfield bit would be for me anyway. But im sure we'l be getting lost somewhere once the final act has finished, and on sunday it will probably be half way through the final acts. Will probably just mooch about though and not necessarily head to 'the naughty corner' every night.
