I woke up in pain today. This is literally all I can remeber from the dream; I was in some old bar in Tokyo with someone from the school I went to in year 11. I asked him to buy me a drink but he said no so I karate kicked him in the face. The weird thing is though is that I was laid on my side in bed and when I kicked him in the dream I kicked the wall next to my bed. My right foot is pretty powerful though so as soon as my foot touched the wall I woke up in agony (my big toe started to bleed and half of the nail was starting come off, also my duvet wasn't there to cushion the blow!). I can't imagine what would have happened if I was sharing a bed with somebody. :sarcastic:

What's odd though is that I was watching Kill Bill yesterday so that film obviously had an impact on me! I guess the lesson here is to not watch violent films ;)

I had a dream in the early hours of yesterday in which someone was about to attack one of my brothers. In the dream I ran towards the bloke and flew into a sideways on kick with both feet intended to strike this bloke's head at full velocity. In reality I had actually thrown myself off my bed and onto the timber floor in my bedroom. I had managed to strike my elbow on the floor at a good rate of knots and ended up scrapping a layer of skin off the elbow. This was all odd to me as in my waking life I am a devout pacifist. I hadn't watched anything violent prior to this either. I simply don't know how it all came about. What I do know is that my last memory of being in the dream was of missing the bloke's head by a good three foot. Bang goes any notions I had of having ninja qualities.

Whenever I have ever had any urge to use violence in dreams it has always been as if my arms/legs are moving through treacle and I have been unable to ever land a blow which would cause pain. I wonder what that means.

Nobody knows how dreams work, maybe you're able to repress your violent tendencies even while asleep, maybe you're partially lucid, and conscious of sleep paralysis....

I've had that experience too, it's a weird one. Some people say it symbolizes powerlessness as you can't do anything about the threat you are facing. However the other explanation is that it is to stop your body moving and hurting yourself, unfortunately not like Jackmypie and Yog!

I'm usually a materialist - with dreams though, since the materialist version would be that the brain is organising its data, and the brain uses emotion to aid memory formation, I'd be inclined to look at what emotions are stirred up as well as the content, if not more so.

I've twice had an experience where I thought an evil presence was in the room. Apart from myself that is! Anyway, I thought I was awake during these instances, but can't have been really. They were so abnormal and so very scary. The only way I was able to stop it was by forcing my seemingly none responsive hand in to the sign of the cross on my body. The minute I finished this it was like I had been released from an evil vice like grip. Not sure what that's about, but no doubt being weaned on Roman Catholicism hasn't helped.

I've been having really realistic dreams lately. Not long ones about anything, but just moments, like imagining reading a tweet, or a short phone call with a friend. It's really creepy as I'm waking up, remembering it, and often feel like I have to double-check it didn't actually happen. It doesn't help that I'm tired a lot of the time, but the disconnect between reality and my imagination seems far too narrow.

There could well be a causal connection, it's very important not to let sleep deprivation go untreated.

I've had that, it's usually a form of sleep paralysis awareness, and often is accompanied by feelings of malevolence for some reason.

I remember having a feeling of malevolence after the first experience. This experience saw me lying on my back in bed at night with the light off while something evil went around the bottom of the bed at very high velocity. After I'd made the sign of the cross and turned the lights on I looked down at the carpet around the bed. I then saw the mark on the carpet where someone had thrown up on at a previous party. I had been in bed at the late stages of the party only to witness this person crawl through my door, along the carpet towards me in the bed and then vomit in front of me. I later had to clean the vomit up and the mark left was that caused ( I am assuming) by his stomach acids discolouring the dye in the carpet. I'm certain that I felt malevolence towards this bloke immediately after the evil thing went spinning around the foot of my bed.

Awww! I had a couple of dreams last night about my old cat who passed away recently. They were in the middle of other dreams, and she just randomly jumped through an open window and came to see me. She was fit and healthy, happy and fluffy again, like she'd been when she was younger. I was really pleased to see her and I got to stroke her again.

It was especially comforting because she was 20 when she died, and very frail. She'd been seen by the vet, and he was happy for her to carry on, she was in no pain and mentally alert and content, but I'd been finding it increasingly painful to see her getting older. And therefore trying to call up a mental picture of her was very painful, and I was feeling guilty about it.

These dreams have left me with a very clear and happy memory of her to hold onto.

I have been put on an antipsychotic and one of the side effects is "strange dreams". Strange is an apt word as well. The dreams usually revolve around events in my life but the players change. Almost always they are girls from the schools I went to up to 13. The dreams themselves are usually not that troubling but I do tend to wake in the night with sleep apnea but when I drift back off I always return to the point I left. When I wake in the morning there is always a lasting impression that can stay all day.

I have found that I do dream of my first high school I went for years 1 and 2. It is weird as when I left I never spoke to anyone from there again and that's well over 30 years ago.

it's my belief that dreams are the brain's way of processing information, usually from the previous day, but it has to be organised in the most meaningful place for learning/memory, so it could just be a metaphor for learning, or your brain might be trying to make sense of something now that relates to years 1 and 2.

I tend to pay attention to the emotion that the dreams stir up.

A couple of nights ago I dreamt that a woman tricked me into thinking she was a police officer and needed to take Willow and her birth certificate from me. I allowed her but then she denied all knowledge of it afterwards and claimed to never have met Willow. It was so real and so sad. I woke up crying and jumped up to check her in her Moses basket. Ever since I keep having mild panic attacks thinking something bad is going to happen to her.

:(

Welcome to parenthood :(

I've had an almost identical dream, and it's horrible.

I've also had a seriously worse one that isn't really for a public board.

Suffice to say, in the dream I was filled with a cold black rage that I've never felt in real life, and a thirst for vengeance that I've also never experienced.

it shook me to the core to know that was inside me lurking somewhere.

I do have a fiery temper that I learnt to suppress once I became a mother, but this was chilling.

Most of these dreams are just tapping into separation anxiety, however.

Also, if this dream has a longer term effect on you, it might be worth seeing your GP. It's perfectly natural to suffer some anxiety, it's just biology prompting you to keep an eye on your baby.

But if the anxiety starts to overshadow your interaction and enjoyment of your baby, it's best keeping an eye on it.

I went from the most carefree, irresponsible child imaginable to a total neurotic adult as a result of motherhood.

Katster, I repeatedly dreamed I'd "lost" my son in the months after his birth - he was somewhere, or with someone, and I couldn't get to him although he needed me, stuff like that. Normal anxiety apparently, faced with such a big new responsibility etc, nothing bad came of it, but the dreams were very vivid and unsettling at the time. It should pass.

Interesting thread. Most of my dreams are not fit for discussion on a message board, though.
