Applications for first time stewards will open on 13th March, there is a new online system in place this year. Hope everybody gets a place from here :)

I worked with Oxfam at a few festivals in the past and really enjoyed it! Would really recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a ticket.

I'm currently deciding which ones to do with them this year?

I'd recommend working with Oxfam over and above most other volunteering options at festivals - good shift managers, great people to be volunteering with and all round a good laugh. I won't be doing it this year as I've got tickets, but I am looking to volunteer at another festival this year. Just can't decide which!

If you're talking about Stewarding Galstonbury, 2011 Oxfam places were on offer before resale day and they went within 30 mins, it was like ticket day, you have to get in quick.

Best look at the dates.

As other have said the plan is to get an Oxfam place first. If I then get a re-sale ticket I get to donate £10 to Oxfam and pass my spot with them to someone else and go anyway. Win-win!

Is anyone else trying to register on the crashing Oxfam priority site (having stewarded previously) at the moment - it's like ticket day all over again!

You may get away with this once, but they record the fact that you have cancelled and if you do it again they can blacklist you. Their argument is that they simply cannot afford to have people regularly using it as a 'Glasto Backup' as if enough people cancel then they could find themselves short of stewards for an event one year.

Can't even log in anymore to the stewarding website....

Fair, I don't want to give the impression I'd do it lightly & certainly don't have the intention of doing that another year + I also plan volunteering for Oxfam elsewhere this Summer. To be honest I'd take any access to Glastonbury at this point - if it were for Oxfam I'd be overjoyed.

Just a quick update on this. The Oxfam server is still down for priority applications (people who have stewarded for Oxfam in the last four years). Therefore the application process for new stewards has been postponed for a few days. No official date has been given yet. Keep looking at the Oxfam site for more info. When I applied last week there was over 2000 places but I don't know how many will be still available once the priority has finished.

  • 2 weeks later...

One less person trying in the re-sale... got my place and I'm ecstatic :beach: . I can give up 24 hours of Glasto (assuming I don't get lucky for a shift before or after) for a good cause and get to enjoy the remaining 96 (ish?) hours.

Has anyone volunteered at Glasto before/know if you can get into any of the the site (as I believe Oxfam's camp is just outside) to get your bearings on the Tuesday? Saw a photo of Bread and Roses open for staff that night which looked fun...

I've worked for Oxfam twice and you are allowed to roam the site once you are in and registered on the Tuesday (as long as you aren't mid shift obviously!). it's quite surreal, this massive festival with hardly anyone there. If i remember a couple of stalls were open so you could get a bite to eat in a couple of spots.

Take a walk up to the Shangri-La and adjoining areas, last time we did they were still building half the place, was really fun to come back a day or two later and see the difference!

Edit: It's also a good chance to get to know other workers around the place before eveything gets mega busy.
