I hope to god he doesn't get announced on the main stage. I really don't want to have to wait 1+ hour swearing under my breath, waiting for Biffy just so I can get a decent spot. I would take another Paramore set over this, hell, even Nickelback. I could tolerate it if he was just 4th down like he is at T but if he's subbing that's a wasted sub in my opinion.

I don't see why people think he won't sub Eminem, It's not like Glastonbury , where there's only weekend tickets, they want to sell day tickets as well, hence the "indie day" and "metal day". They have similar acts subbing all the time. Dizzee into Biffy would be much weirder.

Oh, and I think sub is cottoned on, he's probably in a similar place to Florence last year popularity wise.

Dizzee into Eminem or on the same day would work well for selling day tickets. Although I just can't see it fitting on the bill from previous line ups though.

Perhaps the organisers might think Eminem will be able to shift enough tickets by himself (see V fest a few years ago).

It's undeniable there are days where the main stage has groups of heavier acts to persuade people with a specific taste to buy a day ticket

They may have odd ones but the point is they're not always odd, meaning that a sub/headliner combo of a similar genre is just as likely as not. Therefore the "Eminem and Dizzee are too similar" is not a good argument in any form why the won't be together

It's easily deniable. Of course they will never have exactly the same amount of indie or rock or emo or whatever on the same day, if you think that the slight balance in favour of one or another makes certain days the 'metal' or 'indie' day then that's an incredibly simplistic way of looking at things.

And if there being logical head/sub pairings just as many times as illogical ones means that them being too similar is 'not a good argument in any way' then that also means that the opposite would also be 'not a good argument in any way'. How many times have there been a headliner/sub combo that were both a marginal R&L genre? How many dance headliners and subs together? How many rap/hop hop headliners and subs together?

Pretty much. Foos day would have sold out whoever was subbing, and The Black Keys would have fitted under both Kasabian and The Cure. Admittedly Paramore would seem an odd fit under Kasabian but no odder than 50 Cent into Green Day, Morrissey into the White Stripes or The Prodigy into Arctic Monkeys.

I guess we'll find out on a week, being comfortable having a rap/hip hop act subbing a rap/hip hop act would indicate a significant change in policy.

It could happen, although I don't think it's as obvious as people are making out.

I know they are different festivals, but if Download can have two dance acts headline and sub the same day, I see no reason why R+L can't have two hip hop acts do the same. And this isn't me saying that I think it will definitely happen, just that it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
