I have to agree with all of the above. Though there are some really cool, fashionable wellies out there......for comfort, go walking boots (a good pair) every time.

I've read this topic and am still undecided on which to take, I may take both....

I have bought the dunlop short wellies as my calves don't fit "normal" size wellies, so i'm wondering if these will be ok, or is the mud that deep in certain places when it has rained?

I got some Wellies for a tenner before I first went in 2009 and they've lasted no problem for 3 Glastonburys. Great for when it gets really muddy around the market areas.

Good walking boots and gaiters. I always take wellies just in case it turns really bad - only used them one very bad year

I'd say take both. In a year like 2011 where the weather is all over the place it's a good idea to at least have the choice. I only took boots that year and was seriously struggling with some parts of the site when it became boggy as hell (esp towards John Peel). But then again they were a lot more comfortable than wellies the rest of the time

So boots for main/first choice use but wellies as back up in case of horrendous weather (it is glastonbury after all...) is what ill be doing this year

Has anyone come across Lowther Wellies? Apparently made by Hunter but much cheaper (around £30 a pair) so I'm considering getting a pair.

Make sure you break them in before Glastonbury. I nearly crippled myself wearing a new pair of doc boots one year at Glastonbury. I could barely walk by the Sunday I had that many blisters. Really put a damper on what was a lovely sunny festival.

Boots - and the best dont have to cost a fortune. Find some Boots, Aircrew Pattern 22. They are waterproof, come in half sizes and are exceptionally good for walking.

Ian the worm - have you test driven your croc wellies ? I found they are rubbish in the wet on; grass, smooth concrete and metal to the point where I sent mine back.

I dont really want to spen a lot on something I am only going to really wear at the festival.

So I am thinking I will just stick with my cheap pair of wellies with good socks, and see how it goes?
