West campervan fields Vs East Campervan Fields

HI!

I just wondered if anyone actually stayed in the West Campervan Fields at Glatonbury 2011? I think that they are W61 & W62? - Please correct if I'm wrong.

We are looking to take a campervan in 2013, I usually camp on Pennards, so was interested to hear if anyone can tell me how far the walk is onto the site from WCF? I think I have parked close to these fields before, but that was in 2008, so not 100% sure. Is it easy to walk backwards and forwards during the day? So many people have said it's a nightmare from the East Campervan Fields.

With the East Campervan Field, Which is the closest field to an entrance into the site? Is it E24? Gate C? Also what is Orchard Gate? Is that an entrance?

Who prefers what?

Thanks in advance for any information and advice that anyone can give, much appreciated! :drinks:

So many people have said it's a nightmare from the East Campervan Fields.

I was in East Campervan fields last year for the first time, and despite always thinking it was miles from anywhere, I was much nearer to where I tend to be on site (West Holts) than I was the previous year in a tent (camped somewhere near [but closer to the centre of the site] to where the West Campervan fields are now).

So it's not necessarily the nightmare you were thinking. West Campervan fields would be much worse IMO.

Ah thanks! That sounds a bit more positive I must say! All I've read about are steep hills and one hour walks!

Ahhh .... I guess I should say that the hill is a git, but much more do-able after a day on the piss than you might first think, it's not a big distance.

And that I was probably in one of the fields nearer to the entrance than others were. I'm not sure how many more fields were used to each side from where I was, but no more than three back to the gate.

We've done CV East for the last couple of years and have loved it. The Hill of Death is over exaggerated - just a matter of pacing yourself. It's a lot closer to the Acoustic stage which tends to be one of our main areas. If you want JP and Dance go for CV West.

East overlooks late night area and is close to the queue start point in cabaret field to get in to Arcadia etc. if your up for that great. If you retire early then you get thumping baseline and lights all night but as your in motor home it's not an issue. I get more issue a 6.30am getting woken by sewerage tractor emptying toilets

The hill of death (intentional non-capitals) is a bit of a myth I think. Of course, if you take it on, head on, after a long day you'll certainly feel it but it's not THAT bad.

Last year we simply turned right as soon as we came out of the gate followed the fence line then left up the hill where it levels out a bit.

Camping over there was great, didn't think the toilets were too bad, plenty of space and nice and quiet for a kip (there was a bit of bass line from Shangri La etc, but nothing loud enough to keep me awake)

CV East would be our choice again. The HoD is over exaggerated. No worse a climb than walking up to the the Stone Circle. Like most things, just take it gently and pace yourself.

4 years in east campervan fields for me, 3 times in the first couple of fields by the gate and once right down the back. The HOD has never been a problem, for me the queues to get in and out through the pass out points are the worst thing. In 2010 we queued for at least 30 mins to get in every morning. But once you are in it's only a very short walk to the Brothers Bar.

A vote for West!

Stayed in the West for the first time in 2011. Its much smaller, which means even if you are at the far end, which I was, you get into the walled city proper much quicker. However, you then have many more tents to walk through before getting to anything interesting, so that aspect works out about even, I would say its good if you prefer the Park for late night pleasures. Also, there is no general access to the entrance, so only campervan people, which means no queue getting in each morning, but the big bonus was that, on Monday, leaving was so much easier - just drove straight out (once we'd sorted the flat battery out). I've spend hours in jams in East, which is such a downer on the Monday.

Well we have finally made a decision and have gone for the west. My friends have all said that the walk home is not too bad and as others have said is a little quieter at night - although who am I kidding i'll probably be the one still out making all the noise. :girldance: Thanks for all your advice though and I just love that pic!!!

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
