The Stone Roses

Just watched a video on YouTube of the roses back in 96 when it was just Ian and mani left. Brown sounds awful. If he performs like that on a regular basis I am going to be very upset Sunday night as this is the first, and probably the last time I'll ever see them. Anybody know if that was just a one off, of is he really that bad?

If it was the performance at Reading that went down in history as one of the most performances ever I just dont think they cared anymore tbh, listen to the recordings on youtube of Glasgow Green 1990 and Blackpool in 89 I think? and Ian Brown sounds really amazing especially in Glasgow.

Also give a watch of Ian Brown playing TITP in 2009 singing I Wanna Be Adored when he actually sounds pretty good even though the crowd are singing the majority :P

I've been lucky enough to see Brown live about ten times, and some performances (vocal-wise) were pretty bad, but also at some of the more recent gigs it's as if somebody waved a magic wand!

I'm not inferring Autotune, but something seems to have clicked!

I don't think the Roses' music is all about harmonious lyricism anyway, nor is Browns material for that matter.

I'm seeing them at Heaton Park in June so I'll have a fair idea of how the V performance will shape up by the time August comes around!

Never in all my years did I think I'd say the words "I'm going to see the Roses". Let alone twice in one year.......!!!

I just hope people don't go to watch them with the wrong expectations - keep an open mind and enjoy the fact that it's happening. Rose tinted specs and all that. Pun intended.

Ian Brown can pull it off, although he'll never be described as a strong live singer. There always seems such a sense of relief when he isn't dreadful that people put up with him being just OK and treat that as some kind of victory.

If he can do that this Summer then the songs will carry the set.

I don't know anything about festival booking processes, but I can't see why Glastonbury would have a 'done deal' with a band to headline in 18 months when they haven't played a note together in like 18 years! I'd imagine that they'll have been in contact and stuff, but I doubt that Glastonbury would get them to sign anything - what if they turn out to be rubbish?

And if anything, I'd imagine that they'll be trying to give a little something extra at V and T - there's loads of sceptical people that'll need to be won over at these kinds of events if this reunion is going to have longevity. The Heaton Park crowd don't need to be won over - they've already parted with their £50!

[as above] Ian Brown is and always will be a weak singer, but that is not the point. not even close

he is one of the best 'front men' that this country has ever produced, from one of the best bands that this country has ever produced and to see them make up and reform is verging on miraculous. a resurrection indeed

i saw him close the 2nd stage at Glastonbury in 2005 and he was incredible.. the atmosphere was mint and they wont let anyone down this year

even Mani might start looking a little less scared on stage now...
