Just bumping this thread as Sabbath have been announced for Lollapalooza in August, so Iommi must be doing well for him to accept more booking, especially considering the travelling involved to get there

Bill Ward has confirmed he is NOT going to be playing the Birmingham, Download or Lollapalooza dates.

Says he was asked to do 3 songs at Download and another drummer would do the rest of the show, said no, then saw the Birmingham show had been announced, got in touch with them, they said come over play the Birmingham show for free and we'll see how it goes then regarding other dates. He said no, all or nothing, they left it as that, he said my cut off date is May 10th, they didn't offer new terms, so Bill said he's not doing it.

He's left it saying he's open to future dates however.

All seems so fucked up doesn't it? Wonder why the band are so disjointed, they sat together at the press conference, what happened...

I don't know much about Sabbath, is there anything in the history of the band that might suggest why he was excluded or only wanted fior three songs? Seems a bit of an odd request. Is he a particularly bad drummer or are there concerns about his health and ability to drum a whole set? I remember seeing a story about him a few months back where he said that unless he had a contract to sign he wasn't going to be playing with them this Summer, was he after payment per song or something?

Bill did suffer from health problems a while back but is now back to touring fitness, specifically so he could (have) taken part in the reunion. It is true that Sharon has, for years, stated that Ozzy is the "star" of the band - I don't agree with this - more he was the character of the band. You only have to look at what Sabbath achieved post-Ozzy to realise that.

This is purely Sharon stating they should have the majority of the cash. This is why it went tit's up in the late 90's last time round. There were plans for a new album then too but because of the greedy bitch this didn't occur - as I'm begining to think it won't this time round either. I read she wanted 50% stake of all touring and recording royalites with the remainder divided "equally - hahahahah" between then remaing 3. What a ******* joke Sharon O is, spoilt little rich kid - I just wish she would FOAD, and I don't say that about anyone.

That's what I meant, they were just as successful when Ozzy left - especially the DIO years. A lot of lesser bands have folded when a member leaves, let alone a lead singer.

Ozzy was a character in the band, but by no means the "star" as per what Shazza O has been reported as saying. They were never really about the singer, how many bands do you know that the "lead vocalist" is at the side of the stage? And there is no way that he or the Osbourne camp should take a higher cut - 25% all the way round.

Especially not on a reunion tour. After all reunions are all about the dough, and while tony, geezer and ozzy may have put more into the band in terms of creativity that should not matter one but when it comes to a tour, all should be rewarded equally for their efforts in playing in the band.

After all to create the sound and the performance on stage it takes four blokes doing an equal share of the work, therefore all should be rewarded equally.

I'll be watching Rise Against so i can't say i'm that fussed, but all this infighting does seem to have put a bit of a downer on the whole reunion thing. If it is really Sharon O messing things up, then surely the rest of the band need to have a sit down with Ozzy and tell him that it's out of order for her to be interfering.

Ozzy was never that good live with Sabbath, he won't be that good in a few weeks either. For some reason he can do a solo show really well (a few years back) but put him with Sabbath and it just doesn't happen for him. Sabbath were better live with Dio, Hughes, Martin, Gillan etc etc.

This "reunion" will be good for those who have never seen the likes of Ozzy front Sabbath but for the likes of myself I'll be enjoying it for what(ever) it is on the day.

That's what I meant, they were just as successful when Ozzy left - especially the DIO years.

that was more to do with timing than anything else.

Dio joined in the middle of what was referred to at the time as the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal), and when Rainbow had just had chart success with Graham Bonnet as the singer but which put some focus on the Rainbow of Dio's time. So with an upsurge of interest in metal, Sabbath with Dio got to benefit.

So the timing was perfect rather than Dio being perfect. In fact it came in for some HUGE slagging at the time, with Sabbath disparagingly referred to as Sabbath with the poison dwarf. It was only 'new' metal fans that warmed to Sabbath with Dio.

At the time I was one of the "Dio is pish" gang and refused to let myself like him fronting Sabbath. A few years on and I loved his own stuff. In hindsight he was a far better singer and frontman than Ozzy. I shall be watching and just enjoying, my critical and analytical head will be left at home. I don't think we'll see them again so I'm just gonna soak it up, however it is. Tuborg may have an important role in this process as we as input from other agencies.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
