Kendal Calling 2012

Anyone looking for a proper decent tent this Vango one http://www.yeomansou...-alpha-250.aspx has been reduced and there's free delivery and 10% off today only so worked out at about 36 quid. 3000mm HH too which swayed me judging by the recent wet weather.

I've only ever been to Kendal in good weather so fingers crossed it's not too bad this year

Maybe this rain is driving us all mental. Here`s hoping were due 3 weeks of sun to dry out them fields. Taliking about due....... Congrats Ramragon. Your sorted for designated driver for your summer festival season. All the best sir !

New day and back on track with discussions and debate then, everything seems to have gone a bit quiet on the emperor's field set up, I know it was initially thought that cars could park next to your tents like they were last year, then we got the cryptic, cars in an adjacent field but 'not far' due to health and safety reasons which seemed to have the masses lighting torches and picking up pitchforks.

Must be a couple of months later in the planning stages now, just wondered if there was any more information come to light about the set up. I prefer the camp next to the car set up as it afforded me to take a few more luxuries and comforts. Plus the missus isn't in best shape with arthritis so I would do all the lifting and carrying. No problem at all when your putting a tent up 5 foot from the car, slightly more problem when your travelling undisclosed distances on your own with all your families gear.

Pretty sure a lot of people will feel the same, from what I saw people went mad in the emperor's last year treating it more like a weekend camping trip than a festival. Big tents, table and chair sets, full stove set ups etc. If they go for no camping next to cars without publishing that beforehand I reckon some of the stewards and security are gonna come in for some stick.

Anyone heard anything ?

I'm with you on that - the expectation was set last year...people will expect to have a similar set up (albeit in a different location?) in Emperors Field.

I like the luxury of having the car next to the tent for a few reasons:

  • storage of stuff that may be needed

  • security - locking stuff in the boot

  • phone charging/inflating of airbeds

  • mirrors for sorting my contact lenses (vain, I know)

I dont do the full table/stove thing but I'm getting too long in the tooth to be treking to a carpark at all hours.

I get the same feeling that some people (who dont use forums/facebook etc) will turn up expecting last years set up and could potentially kick-off with stewards. We're now less than 4 weeks away from arriving.....it's about time that something was communicated about the domestic arrangements (it still says "Directions to the NEW Emperors Field area, in which both Campervans and The Deer Lodge is sited will be available in advance of the festival.").

We haven't got OCD, we just like to plan in advance!!

Agreed that the car / tent set up last year helped loads with the security and safety of stuff, last year knowing that my wife's medication was safely locked in the car every night and day was comforting. I couldn't imagine the effect of arriving back to the tent one night or waking up one morning and finding some thieving tw@t had stolen her medication. Basically we would have had to pack up an leave

Back to the music agenda, we've just been subjected to a two song appearance at work by Conor Maynard (I can see the majority of you mouthing "who?") .

What complete and utter tripe! He's the British equivalent of Justin Beiber.....but with less talent.

Thank god this sort of rubbish isnt on the lineup at KC!

Ha ha , I remember being down at the Leeds dream factory years ago for an appearance by Electric soft parade when they played silent to the dark, enjoyed that one. Didn't realise you still had the occasional Friday band slot

Here's a decent tent, 3000hh, in the field and trek sale. 3man With a porch, pretty good for £36? Not too heavy for carting round either

I spotted that earlier this week & sent a message to Jacko.....he ended up buying one!!

I've had a couple of emails today from Millets & Go Outdoors.....Millets are doing 25% off deal on eurohike & highpoint tents, with Go Outdoors doing a 15% off deal (til Sunday) on vango & outwell tents.

Some crazy bargains at the mo.....make the most of it folks whilst you can.

    • I found the vibe a little different to recent editions.. definitely an older crowd, less queer, less Spanish.. certainly has something to do with the lack of Glastonbury this year. And I felt Saturday was a little overcrowded. I‘ve never seen Mordor as full as last night for the xx and Gorillaz. Did not enjoy that too much.
    • Not my favourite year either, despite liking the lineup more than previous years. Not sure what it was, I guess Thursday really put the brakes on things. But yeah I'll be back next year hopefully. And maybe Massive Attack will return...
    • E-mail summarizing Saturday - Primavera Sound 2026 Journal Day 3. As in previous days, it's going to be on the website soon, I think.
    • I was surprised as well. I met more than 20 different people on both Friday and Saturday that had come in reusing QR codes.
