So.....on my way home from Wickerman. A nice little festival, and a great warm up for Kendal Calling!

See the Emporer shambles still isn't cleared up yet

Glad you enjoyed Wickerman. First year in a while that I've not gone - was only going to do one festival this year and the lineup swayed me to KC. As someone thats never been to KC would you say that they are similar in atmosphere and size?

I'm totally confused by the Emperor thing - directions (from North), position of site in relation to arena, car parking, booze rules etc - lots of conflicting information (including the official site). No doubt I'm totally overthinking it but I find it strange that we are 4 days away and they haven't bottomed it out. Surely to god the plans are in place and they just need to write a one pager.

Off to air the tent from last year's wickerman and wash the sleeping bags etc.

Going to have a hectic 3 days at work but will be followed by 4 "relaxing" days at KC then another week off work afterwards to recuperate.

KC is more compact than Wickerman Jonjo. Pretty similar in size people wise. There aren't as many small tents as Wickerman.

My view is that KC is a better festival, and probably a bit more relaxed than Wickerman.

The extra day makes a big difference too! Wickerman really needs a 3rd day I think.

And as for the line-up....there's no contest!!

Cheers Al, lineup for Wickerman has been good for the last few years but this year it just looks like all the budget went on Scissor Sisters.

I'm a scooter tent man myself though, but even the lineup for that was a bit poor - Bombskare usually the highlight mind you, so will still get my fix of skanking at KC.

Looking forward to a change and pretty much going on a scouting mission for the rest that normally go to Wickerman with me. Probably the same distance time-wise from Edinburgh anyway and with the option to go direct by train looking good.

The tent has been up, checked over and packed away again. Our poles are a bit bendier than is usually ideal but maybe we can pick up some replacements in Monday's post fest carnage. Hopefully it'll survive the weekend.

Only one more day at work and we're on our way north - stopping off at the in-laws in Morecombe for a couple of days.

I got up ready to sunbathe in the garden, but there is very little sign of the sun now so I am thinking we may end up in Go Camping today, no doubt picking up endless camping tat that we never knew we needed. One year we went in for a pac a mac and came out with a new tent, camping stove, and sleeping bags! This cannot happen again!

I really do need walking boots. Mine gave up the ghost at last years Glastonbury after 15 years. I think not having any would be tempting fate, although I do have some cheap wellies.

Sadly today our boiler died and as we can't get it fixed till after we get back, the post festival bath has just gone out of the window. The shower and the washing machine both heat their own water so it's not as big a disaster as it might be.

My itunes shuffle is playing a lot of James today!

So it seems there will be a separate entrance into the arena for emperors field now. And a 3 min walk to the car for those driving.

Emperors Field is a place for those who like a few extra creature comforts and a

more laid back atmosphere. This year we have moved and increased the size and

facilities of the area. Included within your ticket you will have lovely hot showers as

well as the Pootopia luxury compost toilet and even a massage tent. Massages will

be available between 9am – 12 noon and 4pm – 6pm, Friday to Sunday.

Once camped within Emperors there will be a private separate entrance into the

arena.

Looks like they've been reading up on our comments on here and finally rectified the whole situation.

What have I missed then, seemingly quite a bit ! lightening seeds pulling out, not the best news, finally some emperors info which is good news and lakeland winding people up .

Just heading back from wickerman, had a really good time, family friendly atmosphere. Good points for anyone going or considering it next year. Lovely scenery, the arena at no point feels overly full, even main stage looked like it could take a lot more people, excellent variety of music, good site layout and spacing, very geared towards families where kids under 13 are free, plus theres loads to do for them including fairground rides, kids tents and activities,2 small football courts and a laser quest type arena to name a few. some of the stewards were the best ive seen

Bad points, not loads really, some of the initial stewards we met sent us the wrong way or were oblivious as to where the disabled camping was which was frustrating. Not sure about the beer tokens only at the bar, but gotta say when you went to the bar it was really quick, I pulled 2 tokens out of my pocket earlier so they scored a bit of free money from me, the line up was a little weak after the top 3 acts each night on the main stage, only 2 nights of music. Speaker system bit ropey on sunday night at the main stage

The weather was decent for festivals, not too hot, not too cold, only rained a little bit overnight apart from a little drizzle sunday night.

Bands, scissor sisters played a very good set, as did the levellers and cast, forgotten how much decent stuff cast had done and the crowd really enjoyed the set. The view came accross as pretty lacklustre on sunday night, sound was poor and I cant see me making that much effort to see them again at kendal.

Not long till knedal now

There was a phone charging tent last year in the main camping area I think? I'm going to take a spare battery, cos unless the charging point is next to a bar or a stage I don't fancy wasting an hour or so waiting for my battery light to hit 5 bars.

Right....

I'm gonna make a prediction!

There will be no Emperor Camping next year....they'll be a price increase in excess of £20 and it'll all be dressed up as "bringing it into line with other festivals of its size"

Just my thoughts

    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
