He didn't do it alone though did he...

Irrelevant. Tax law says that the payee is responsible for ensuring tax is paid on what they pay out*, and the recipient is responsible for declaring it.

(* for example, if a contractor I use doesn't pay their tax, HMRC can come to me for it)

From an outsider looking in, 'Arry is absolutely perfect for the England job. Knows the players, a darling of the FA, part of the London media/FA/player love in so wont be open to the (pretty disgraceful) media attacks that the non English managers have had to put up with, and undoubtedly gets players playing for him. Something you haven't had since Robson, with the exception of El Tel.

Don't see the issue?

Are 'Arry's advocates really suggesting that his status and the potential for England manager hasn't had an effect at all?

He didn't pay tax he was due to pay. In most cases that'd be as simple as. 'Arry's got good lawyers though, and despite making a reputation as a manager for his "wheelin' an' dealin'", his claim of business ignorance seems to have been believed.

Thats not to say he cant do it. He plays very attacking football with Spurs. Foreign teams won't like that.

Thats all you need, short bursts. And look at he players he has and the players he has coming through for the 2014 World Cup.

Hart, Smalling, Jones, Richards, Cahill, Walker, Rodwell, Walcott, Milner, Cleverly, Wilshere, Johnson, Welbeck, Rooney.

Aren't many international managers with young players like that to chose from.

Who would people prefer?

Dunno about that and anyway, not always important in international football.

I think he would be really found out in a world cup in brazil, very different to managing a team in british conditions. I would be surprised if he got england to the semis but who knows. I also think it may be not the best time to take over, the golden generation being phased out and new young players coming in. There wont be a great deal of players in the 25-30 age range and it may be considered a trnasitional time.

I expect England would romp the group stage, thus getting a favourable draw for the first knockout, hyping things up. Semis would depend on who we'd draw in the quarters. We'd look great until we came up against a top team that could play well, then get knocked out, make the excuses, keep him around for the Euros, by which time he'd get found out.

He'll make Sven, BrollyWally and Postman Pat look like tactical genius'?

Yep, and I'm willing to bet that there's a good 8 or 9 other countries with similar quality players of similar potential. These are just the ones on our radar. I doubt many of us are aware of what exciting Italian youths are at clubs like Parma or Bologna or Palermo like we are of exciting prospects at Bolton, Blackburn, Everton etc.

(yes I know most of them have moved to big clubs now, but the point remains)

So who are the other candidates then? People will moan if its not an English manager so barring all foreigners.........

Yep. You're dead right of course, Harry is the outstanding candidate.

Which is what makes it all so awful, that that's how bad things are with the choice of English managers.

I think there's 9 Glaswegians currently managing in the Prem, plus another two Scotsmen. How many English? ;)

You're forgetting that most of the other leagues are shite by comparison. Two teams in Spain, 3 ok teams in Italy (not many young players either). Germany is the only other country with a decent league thats consistently churning out quality young players.

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
