Yeah but that was never in doubt. Reading is definitely short of that, it certainly struggles to put on pop acts like Beyonce and Jessie J, amongst other things.

It's worth noting that the food offerings at Reading were so poor a few years ago that Reading recruited the guy who runs the markets at Glastonbury to take over the running of the Reading traders to try and improve what they offer. I believe it's not overstating things to say that he's had a hell of a job trying to do that.

What is this, a 'beat up Reading' thread? All festivals need outside help sometimes, I believe Michael Eavis had to call in some outside help to arrange infrastructure and security a while ago and they're still working together, although I can't remember at this time who it is.

I was simply making a statement of fact about the food offerings at Reading.

And while what you say about Glastonbury getting Melvin in to sort out those aspects, there's a big difference with that compared to Reading getting in Dick Vernon to sort out the food - and that's that Reading got in Dick because the food was regarded as failing, while Glastonbury's need of Melvin was due to Glastonbury's overall success.

So while on one level they're much the same thing, when you delve a little deeper they're opposites.

I was at Reading for Radiohead in 2009(?) and the food was shockingly bad, it was absolutely necessary to leave site, and head to a lovely butchers in town and get some meat to bbq!!

I think the Reading v Glastonbury argument is flawed as they are both 'arts' festivals and hence entirely judged on personal tastes.

On the subject of food, last time I went to Reading (2004?) there was a stall selling Pilton Porker sausages!

Heh it's OK if you don't have any standards, it's a step or two up from a greasy burger van but still nothing like Glastonbury or Healthy T at TITP. Although don't worry, there are still greasy burger vans there as well.

You can just swan into a restaurant at Reading, far better than any shit food you'll get at Glastonbury or any other festival, It's not all shit food at Reading though but it's the only large festival with a choice of Restaurants/Pubs in the Highstreet or by the River Thames.

I also find your pathetic Glastonbury poll quite amusing, Pulp & Elbow came out as the best acts over the weekend..

The Reading Festival lineup this year would be quite bad without the Lock-Up and a couple of other decent acts across the other stages but Pulp & Elbow are probably the worst acts on the bill at Reading (IMO) as oppossed to being the best at Glastonbury.. I find that funny!

...but that's always been the case in my lifetime, the rock/punk bands are almost non existant at Glastonbury and quite often are the most entertaining.

Pulp, Radiohead etc were quite good Uni/pub bands about twenty years ago but i've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, why anyone would want to spend the weekend in a muddy field, walking for hours on end, to see Pulp or Radiohead? Whatever floats your boat.

It was a bit more rocky in the early 80s, but no more - though 2010 was a bit of an exception. Shame, I like rock and, generally, find indie pop bands dull and silly.

Too true. I don't mind Radiohead, when they try they can be interesting, but I can't imagine they'd be fun live; even avoided them at Glastonbury 2003 in order to explore a quiet Greenfields. Pulp are the acme of tedium.

Every time Swinning starts his anti-Glasto wind-up - this is not the first time - it always ends up centreing around the fact that Reading is better because there's shops and resturants up the road so that you go shopping or go off-site to eat.

Which is highly amusing, because he's clearly trying very very hard but being able to leave the site is ultimately the only thing he's able to say about Reading which makes it better than Glastonbury - and that's from the mouth of someone who loves Reading but hates Glastonbury.

So even in Swinning's eyes, Reading is clearly a load of rubbish.
