2013 Headliners

I saw them at the O2 at the weekend and thought they were really good. They have really improved since I last saw them at Old Trafford about 4 years ago. However does Miles Kane have nothing better to do than just come on to play on 505 for 30 seconds, I quite like his solo stuff but coming on for 1 song all the time is getting daft.

Black Sabbath + Metallica ... with Led Zep and perhaps even Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Iron Maiden and a several other vaguely similar bands as support :P On no, hang on, that's all kinda sounding more like daydreaming of a jolly to Donnington rather than Somerset isn't it

bat.gif yum.yum.yum. and all that lick.gif

... wanders off to contemplate *exactly* how old is way too old for Download

In all honesty Gazza I can't be bothered to respond to all of them as this is only the Glasto page and the list is too long!! But I reckon for 2013:

Arcade Fire

Mumford and Sons

Dizzee Rascal

Kasabian

Florence and the Machine

Daft Punk

Lady Gaga

Chase and Status

Biffy Clyro

Best it easily IOW.

Reading would sell out in an instant, prefer Green Day but i know unlikely.

I can't see Example headlining the other. i know he's big and all but he only played 4th down on the 4music stage at V, who he is easily most suited to. I would say 3rd down on the Other at a push. Other than that Glastonbury looks a bit average. I will reserve judgement on the Stone Roses until July. ATM i can't see them lasting until 2013.

V would be interesting, i will not go no matter what, but my sister is going and she hates coldplay and has never heard of the stone roses so tbh i would love it if it is true.

Phoenix looks a bit odd. Are smashing pumpkins still headline worthy? Playing Academy venues etc.

Would laugh so hard if Nickleback played download.

I am not sure about Stone Roses, I think they will burn out before then. I can see them headlining loads of festivals next year, and unless they release some really good new stuff next year, then I think the novelty may have warn off by 2013. I can't see them headlining Glasto in 2013 having headlined all the other festivals the year before. I suspect they may call it a day after the festival season next year

    • No worries, it's a perfectly fair question to ask. I would expect people to be talking at the back & near the bars & that is where I would want them to be talking. If your group are enjoying yourselves & the music & briefly chatting to say how much you are loving a certain song etc, you would be an ideal group to stand behind.   My issue is with people having full blown conversations (usually unrelated what is on the stage) whilst being surrounded by people who are trying to listen to the music. This was happening in the middle and towards the front of all stages, & so you have limited options to move around & you may have spent 20 minutes waiting for the band trying to get the closest position that you can. If there's a group of 8 people, there may be 2 or 3 that like the band & the rest will start talking if the music isn't their thing. This may be the norm now for festivals, and if it is, that's ok & I will focus on a band's own gigs & UK based new music festivals.    I'm also not including consequences of my own decision making. I saw Geese on Wednesday so went to Occident after Men I Trust finished so it was understandable there would be chatting that far back. Similarly, getting to The XX after Olivia Rodrigo along with most of the site, I knew my chance of a good spot & a chat-free zone had gone so that was completely reasonable.   PS. I went to Bilbao BBK in 2023 & 2025 & enjoyed it. For Pulp & Kylie in 2025, I got a position early & was surrounded by a respectful & fun crowd for both. The UK non-headlining bands tend to go on the undercover 3rd stage, & most people like to congregate outside so you can usually get close to the front of that stage.
    • Interview on 6 music earlier, was going to get the album to have a listen, but comes out the day they play the festival
    • Additional dates added already
    • I feel like it's not COMPLETELY beyond the realm of possibility that they could headline but I just don't see it.    They're not doing anything other than headlining. So nah, I don't see it.
    • Consider that the sound quality can be better near the front bars right behind the soundbooth rather than closer to the stage, like with mbv. And of course, the front sections are full of talkers too.   The most courteous move would be to have conversations in the very back of the field.
