Headliners confirmed and Prodigy NOT playing

why (if its happening) are the offspring playing? have they released anything new recently? surely they were popular about 8 years ago so them headlining the radio 1 tent is just a massive waste of a headliner and a bit shit really? surely no one's gonna be excited about seeing a bunch of 30 year old 40 year old punks jumping around singing dated pop punk songs when there are so many other bands that could easily play.

For the past week I've been trying to remember what your name was from last year xD

You and Neil are both saying its those three, so Im sticking by that.

And those three have confirmed a good reason why I spent £200 in December. I love The Strokes, Muse are a band I've wanted to see live for a while now, and MCR... well my teenage years were The Black Parade on repeat, and I love their new album.

So Im fricken excited now :D

I'm looking forward very much to MUSE and the Strokes. It isn't often two of my favorite bands headline reading in the same year! MCR... meh, but fair play to them getting a headline spot, and it's always good for the festival to get a headliner in that's never headlined before, gives the festival a bit more variety in my opinion. I won't be seeing them unless there is absolutely no alternative but I'm sure they'll draw a decent sized crowd.

it's not the fact that My Chemical Romance are headlining that bothers me anymore.. I'm fine with seeing a new headliner on the bill. Its just the undercard that I worry about; 30 Seconds To Mars are appalling (CD or live) and don't think they should be there. I think maybe Soundgarden are likely to sub?

Muse are the only headliner I have a problem with (don't worry, I won't go there again)

I'll see The Strokes if there's no one else on but they aren't that great.

And regardless of what anyone thinks of MCR, I'd rather see them getting the slot than some band that's been dragged out of storage yet again coughredhotcillipepperscough

But The Offspring headlining the NME? No thank you. Never been a particularly big fan and I don't even know why they would. Are they doing something new this year, or is it just a random rumour that's been latched on to?

Also, if most of this turns out true, the subs will be better than the headliners and there will be a few gems scattered throughout the undercard and smaller stages.

I really don't understand all the MCR hate. I think it's great that we're getting a new, rising band. Maybe they're not a hundred percent proven yet, but surely that's better than some boring, predictable repeat? I'm more annoyed with Muse than anything, that just screams lazy to me, especially because it just throws the balance out. With Reading, it's all about a Classic, a Modern and a Newbie.

Classic: Blur

Modern: Strokes

Newb: MCR

Sounds much better to me.

I'd be happy with these headliners. Muse are a band ive wanted to see for ages. Strokes are a band I have recently started listening to. MCR I only know 4 songs (black parade, teenagers and their last 2) and from what I've heard I like them.

If you add Pulp to it, it makes the main acts seem a lot better. Elbow are the most disappointing band for me, looking at the expected headliners/subs.

Bit gutted that there is not going to be Prodigy/Chemical Brothers/Pendulum/Chase n Status, but im sure i will get over it.

Really? They haven't even been around for a decade yet. Slowly rising and constantly changing their sound, so what if Danger Days wasn't a continuation of growing success. Can you name me a band that has had hit after hit after hit? They're still young, trying to define themselves, which is especially hard to do when you get such a success like Black Parade. Even if they're not really upcoming, they're definitely new to headliner status and in my mind at least, make a welcome change to the constant cut and pasting of the same old bands.

It's definately a better booking than Razorlight, Franz and The Darkness were (even though I was a big fan of Razorlight back in the day). Those 3 had only had 2 albums when they headlined. And going back further, Travis.

What I want to know is, who'll get the 2 hour slot? Presumably Muse?

I have seen MCR and Muse within the last 12 months and have to say very impressed with both. Muse in Manchester probably the loudest gig I have ever been to. Will definitely pull it off on main stage. Not a big MCR fan but Gerard Way and co. were definitely on form last month for me (despite what I had heard previously from other people) and I think as they can sell arenas, deserve a headline spot. A weak headliner but are undoubtedly successful.

Also on the topic of The Offpsring. They do have a new album coming out soon and have been recording for a while now. They have had a few patchy albums (Splinter was awful) but their last record was good. I really hope they play but if they clash with strokes...I will be sad. However, I am sure the sadness will soon pass as The Offspring have been a major influence on me since I was 9 or 10 years old (I am now 20) and I have still not seen them live!

is there any chance that the MCR rumour is still wrong? If I remember correctly you said that The Libertines would headline last year, and they subbed. I'm just clutching to straws, praying that they sub and RHCP headline instead. Also, RHCP said they were playing Europe festivals in 2011 and seeing as there is no other festival they could really play in the UK this year, doesn't it point towards another performance by them?

I'd rather Chemical Romance to be honest, Chill Peppers do nothing for me. Someone did say that they could possibly be testing the waters by doing this semi-reveal of MCR in a headline spot, and with the massively negative reaction that's come, they might have them drop to sub, so I ont think it's impossible for there to be a surprise third headliner to pop up (hopefully Blur).
