Yeah i saw them at V, and they were very frosty to say the least, allegedly swearing at the Chelmsford crowd, but nevertheless an excellent band. Sadly, i can't see anymore Doves for a while.

Probably grumpy old Jimi, he's had a face like a slapped arse performing for a while according to reports. He was a right curmudgeon at Kendal Calling last year.

Curmudgeon - that's not a word used often enough is it??

Oh, and its just 'Doves', no 'The'.... sorry for being a pedant. :D

i saw them at the Warehouse Project back in October, and there was talk then that it could be their final gig. i think they said something about it being their last 'for a while' or something along those lines. drink had been taken, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

good gig, though surprisingly not a sell out.

I highly doubt it, there was talk of Jimi working with Guy Garvey but I doubt that will happen for a while, if they're ever back, it'll be a good few years.

I saw them at Folkestone on the last tour and they were fantastic, bought my Dad the best of CD and he loves them now as well.

Examples of CURMUDGEON

<only a curmudgeon would object to the nursing home's holiday decorations>

At his quirky best, the elder Cooper is a curmudgeon right out of central casting, grumpy old man meets borscht-belt crank. He really does fiddle with his hearing aid and yell, “What? I can't hear you,” only to chide you afterward that there's no need to shout. —Norah Vincent, New York Times Book Review, 19 Feb. 2006

I think they over did it touring the last album. They were great in December '09 at the G-Mex but I understand that some of the 2010 dates were a bit strained. Think they'll take a reasonable length break now. I desperately hope it's not the end as they're one of the best bands on the planet IMO and massively underrated.

After Elbow, my next favourite band. Excellent live, they are so suited to Glasto. Gutted it seems like things are not working out anymore. I think there is no chance this year unfortunately. Hopefully they will sort things out and be back at Glasto in 2013.

Doves on the Pyramid in 2005 is a personal highlight for me. Loved them in the grey drizzle that evening, especially when they played Satelites.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
