and on a related note, why is it assumed that U2 will be playing on Friday night? Is it cos they were going to last year? I'm sure there are good reasons for thinking so,but I don't know what they are!!

They're playing Baltimore on the 22nd June and East Lansing in Michigan on the 26th June. Allowing a day to travel to Glasto and a day to travel back to the States makes Friday 24th June the only day they can play.

If nothing changes, it's a 100% no-goer as U2 are definitely scheduled to play - see all above evidence (gaps in dates, website urging U2 fans to go to Glasto, etc.) and on other threads.

You'd have to think that having AF subbing, ready to be bumped up if anything similar to last year happened, could well be part of the thought process, however.

But Glastonbury's already sold out? The majority of people won't be able to have the choice between Glasto and Hyde Park because first of all, Glasto sold out back before people thought AF would be playing, and there'll be very few tickets in the resale, and even less who will make the decision to go to Glasto just for AF. I'd say it was a very small number of people who will make the choice, so I can't see it affecting their sales too much. The point of them playing Hyde Park seems to be to top up their Glasto fees as we all know, they're not much for the headliners, let alone the subs.

Neil said to me that as of September, U2 were definitely booked to play - the question is whether anything has changed between now and then, which is unlikely.
