Exit and Re-entry

This is going to be my and my friend's first year at Glastonbury. At other festivals (V and Leeds) you can drive your car off site each morning to either re-stock your food/drink supplies or use clean(er) facilities.

Not an ideal situation for all, but a festival necessity for some of our group.

Was just wondering if this was possible at Glastonbury? Is it easy enough to get your car out and back in? And is there any local towns with services/supermarkets etc?

You will be able to get in and out with your car if you need to, but may not get the same parking space on your return.

There are showers available on site so there's no worries on that score. Also, you can use the shuttle buses into Glastonbury town and visit the Morrisons supermarket to restock on any supplies you need.

You would also be bloody stupid to do so just for the simple need of 'supplies'.

If you are arriving in a car, just load the car with all your supplies (like absolutely everyone else does) and just do return runs to the car to restock to save on breaking your back and/or trolley on first entry. If you run out of supplies, then its your own silly fault for not filling the car enough before you left!

But these days with car parks a lot further away than previous years, you would certainly rue leaving if you got a decent car park spot only to then be sent to W52 and upwards (they are over the main road and then some more!)

PS Glastonbury is in the middle of the countryside with country lanes and its at least 5 miles to G Town. It certainly ain't Reading or V with the city just a half hour stroll down a tow path.

PPS The ale and cider at the festival is some of the best you will find in festy land.

In all my years of attending Glasto I had no idea there is/was a shuttle service to G Town. Never ever seen on advertised. I was under the impression that once you get there, you are in other than heading back to car to restock as quite simply it just doesnt make sense to leave the site other than to pop to your car unless there is a pressing engagement (like work for some poor folk who just couldnt get the time off on Thurs/Fri or a wedding within driving distance you cant get out of etc)

Bus arrivals, they know what they can carry and bring in. The festival is set up for everyone to stay on site...just Centre Parcs! Haha!

Without having to explain myself too much there, I was referring just to car owners of which there are quite a few and nearly all with very loaded vehicles full of weekend supplies. The OP stated he is coming by car.

I have to agree with everyone else, leaving the site is a bad idea. I'd wondered about this at one point as originally I was planning on getting there by bus and was worried about carrying everything but I'm so glad I didn't have to do that. There isn't enough time to see and do all the great stuff there is at G as it is without wasting time driving into town. Like Lucy said, just pack up the car with everything you may need and there's no need to leave.

As I said in another thread if carrying everything in at once is a worry for you then take in the essentials to begin with and go back to your vehicle in the evening when there's next to no queues.

Due to a bad back i only bring stuff from car in small amounts so have to have a couple of journeys to car and it really annoys me that time spent in the car park - would much rather spend it exploring.

yes it is possible, you will get a pass out card when you go out but you will still need to show your ticket. the only problem is that if you move your car then you will get a new parking space which will be further away from the festival than your old one. some people do go out the festival though and like to go back to the town to get more food and drinks. i hope some of this helps

I left the site in my car no problems last year. Space wasn't that bad upon my return. Anyway, as others have said stock your car up as much before if you can, I can see why you'd want to go out to maybe get fresh food to cook. Though the toilets at Glasto are far superior to that of V/Reading etc.. the food at Glasto whilst high in variation is still very expensive so bring as much as your own if on a budget.

It's not impossible, I left first thing on the Friday morning and was back in time for the afternoons bands. The walk back to the car is nowhere near as bad when you don't have loads of bags and stuff! I found it quite nice as went a different route and explored a bit more of the festival.
