I will be coming alone next year but would love to spend another day in Glastonbury the night before and perhaps one the day after. Anyone know of a place that will take a single accommodation and still has some available?

i stay at home, i live 10 miles away in radstock :D it actually takes me longer from the main road to the car park than from my house to the site.

We're not staying before the festival, will either sleep in the car park if they are doing it again or drive down really early. We are staying in Bath on the Monday though after the festival. Sunday is one of our heaviest nights and didn't think it is fair for someone to drink sensible to drive all the way home on Monday under the influence, this way we only have a short drive then can recover before the long drive, plus we've never been out before in Bath

We usually drive down through the early hours of Tuesday but thought we'd consider the train this year...

Couple of questions -

a - How easy is it to get from Kings Cross Station to Paddington?

b - What time do the shuttle buses start from the site back to Castle Cary station on Monday?

ta very much...

Thanks lads.

It might be a bit of a dilemma as to whether to book a couple of specified service singles (currently £10.50 each for equivalent dates in Feb) or a couple of off-peak singles (after 9:30 I guess - currently £34 each - but are valid for the full day)....hmmmmm

Unless it's stupidly expensive, always try to get Open Return tickets allowing you to travel back on any service on the Monday. You obviously need peak-time tickets to travel on the very early services as well of course. It is generally possible to make sure that you stand a very good chance of getting a specific timed service but it's far from easy because the number of peeps at the station and the inevitable delays in getting there are totally unpredictable. However, missing a specific service for any reason is highly likely to cost you lots in one way or another by either being forced to buy another ticket on the day or potentially picking up a fine en-route. Delays or whatever at Castle Cary are unlikely to be considered a valid reason for using an alternative service or making a claim on any Travel Insurance etc. because train companies various are most likely to claim that it wasn't their fault and so it's your problem not theirs <_< If you have off-peak tix then you wont be allowed to travel until after 1000 hours or thereabouts I think.

The way it works is that peeps are sorted on arrival, queued outside the station and then 'herded' in appropriate numbers onto trains as and when they arrive depending on how much room is available, the tix you have and where you are actually heading for. There are also a number of special Glasto trains on major routes. You may possibly end up being told to use an unexpected service and then change en-route if the guys running the show can clear more peeps that way. It's always pretty well organised but you do need to ensure that you get sent to the right queue on arrival - if you have peak-time tickets valid for the early trains then you defo don't want to end up in the "hanging around and being totally ignored for several hours" queue for those who only have off-peak stylee tix !

Be warned that some train operators (and First Great Western in particular) are generally seriously bl**dy cheeky around Glasto time and don't have the usual range of el-cheapo advance stylee tix available for the likely popular routes such as from London to Castle Cary and so on. You usually need to be more than a bit 'creative' when planning your journey as well so definitely look at buying multiple tix i.e. separate tickets for each major section rather than getting 1 ticket from Home to Glasto. This is especially important if you're going to be using several different train operator's services and/or they're for distances of more than around 100 miles. Getting several separate tix or travelling via a somewhat obscure route can (and usually does) save you a small fortune over buying the more obvious Home-Glasto ticket even though you're more often than not travelling on exactly the same trains ! If you're travelling via London at any time then it's almost always going to be cheaper to buy separate tix for Home/London and London/Wherever.

There's almost always a significant amount of do$h to be saved for very little effort if you're sensible and do a bit of homework around 3 months or so before Glasto :) Keep an eye on the "Glasto Questions" board around that time as there's usually a thread over there with hints/tips/advice to avoid getting screwed over by train companies various !

Last year we stayed at the beautiful Abbotts House in Charmouth - about a 40 minute drive away. However - it was our honeymoon so we could justify the 2 nights of luxury - that won't be happening again!

On the other hand - it was that wonderful combination of luxury without snobbery. It was OK to pad down to breakfast in combat shorts and bare feet, and they were happy to freeze our sausages and bacon ready for Glastonbury. A gorgeous place to stay - with chocolates and fruit to help yourself to, all over the house, and freshly baked cookies in your room every day, all the food was fantastic and locally sourced, the bathroom had a space age double shower and a double ended free standing bath with plasma TV on the wall - just brilliant - but at the same time, a really relaxing, cosy, home from home feel.

Most of us going to Glastonbury would be on a budget that wouldn't allow for this, but if anyone here is loaded - or honeymooning like we were so able to justify pushing the boat out - I highly recommend it!

We need to get on with sorting out somewhere cheaper for this year!

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
