LCD Soundsystem

So I went to see Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem co-headline in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely fantastic gig. Hot Chip were on first (early), then LCD headlined.

Now I love Hot Chip, but have always found LCD Soundsystem's album stuff a little underwhelming. However, LCD Soundsystem blew Hot Chip out of the water. Such a fantastic live performance. Don't get me wrong, Hot Chip were great too, but LCD blew me away.

Disappointingly I hear that he is going to stop touring soon. Does anybody know what the odds are that he will play Glastonbury? If he does, he will be my one must-see act for this year (unless hell freezes over and Arcade Fire play).

It's funny, on record I love LCD Soundsystem, but when I have seen them they have not been as awesome as I had hoped. Still great, but not the epic performance I was expecting. And they never play North American Scum which is very disappointing.

I'd say the chances are very slim of the playing glasto as they played this year. Also I am taking the reports that they will stop touring with a pinch of salt as he said the same thing after he toured sound of silver.

I also went to see that gig in Cardiff. And I completely agree with you, hot chip were good, but LCD were incredible.

I have always loved their records from when I first heard Sound of Silver (addmitadly missed the boat on the first album) but as soon as I saw that gig I went home searching for some sort of live album.

All the songs had a very different intensity and sound to them, for example I had never really had much time for the song Movement from the first album, but that song turned out to be the highlight of the show (other than All My Friends).

But to be honest it seemed like that would be the last time i would have the chance to see them live, (especially in the near future). Maybe five years down the line after Murphy has had time to work on his other projects we will seem him at Glasto again, hopefully headlining the Other.

I was at the Manc show too. Loved it. It was great to see LCD with a proper light show, made songs like Movement 100 times more frenetic.

Wouldn't be so sure about the split though. Murphy has a history of saying he'll quit, but he keeps on going. There's been a few interviews where he's admitted he should just shut up about saying they'll split since that's the way he feels after every record, and then when the tour's done with he decides to get back into it. Every time it's "this time the split is real", it's turning into crying wolf.

They were selling a double cd of the London show for £20 at the Manchester show, had a smart cd cover and everything but I just never have cd's anymore as just take up space and wasn't convinced on spending £20. My mate who I went with got it though, although I don't live near him so hopefully will be able to grab a copy of it at some point.

As it was last gig of the tour possibly either of their websites are selling them???

Checked their sites and couldn't see it so wondered if Ebay was getting rid of the gear and saw one person selling and said it retails for £20 on their site.

Went back and it's on the news, but not under shop for either of them, as goes through a different site.

£20 for CD

£12 for digital download of both or £8 for either of the others on download. Think I'll grab it off there now :D

I thought Cardiff gig was Brilliant.... I was there, at the front, in the middle!!!. And the best news is that everyone around me has uploaded it to youtube from their phoney-thingy-bob so I can watch it all over again! James did look tired throughout but then who wouldn't look tired when you're putting so much into each performace. PS, The dummer is ace.

Back to the origional question though, er, I dont know. Sorry.

LCD Soundsystem, The London Sessions, recorded the week after Glasto, well worth the £5.99 imo.

from what i've heard he's going to carry on putting out records as LCD, but not doing the full band on tour thing. apparently their final (yeah, i know) gigs will be in New York next summer as part of the DFA 10th birthday celebrations.

We can all live in hope that they will come back to glastonbury, hopefully headlining somewhere like the JP tent or the park where I think it would do there sound and style more justice than playing at the vast Other stage full of dissapointed football fans. But I can't see it.

Latest quote from James, in a recent Australian interview:

Have you put an end date on LCD Soundsystem yet? At least in a live sense?

Not entirely. It's definitely this year. Is the end. And we're figuring out what we want to do. It really takes everyone sitting in a room. Talking about what we want to accomplish. Seeing what the best way to do it is, see if there's anything people feel like we didn't do, or they really want to try. Before, you know, we're home growing vegetables and stuff.
