I know this is slightly random but I really hope that Wilco play Glastonbury next year because it would be absolutely fantastic if they did. Failing that a Jeff Tweedy solo performance would be phenominal.

Who else thinks that Wilco would be great at Glasto? What stage would they play? and what is the best/you're favourite Wilco song?

In my opinion Company in my back is unbeatable.

Yeah I have the Ashes DVD, its absolutely superb. As well recorded a DVD as you'll ever hear, if you have 5.1 sound, use it! The version of Shot in the Arm is unreal.

Can't wait for that then, I love a good band documentary me. Knowing my luck I'll probably end up watching it on the computer unless I force my entire family to sit/sleep through it downstairs so that I can get the full HD experience.

as a documentary/film, Ashes isn't as good as I Am Trying To Break Your Heart... but the performances are stunning

seen them twice at Glasto, and if the truth be known, it doesn't seem to suit them.

even though it was their first (?) appearance on t'other stage that woke me up to how amazing they are

or maybe they could have a stage all to themselves for a mini Solid Sound Festival weekend.. with Mavis, Loose Fur, etc

'blackholes and revelations 2006' - they would be fine in a festival setting. as a lot of here have suggested, Park Stage headliner going up against a shite pyramid headliner or Coldplay (some would argue that that's the same but i actually thougth Coldplay were good in 2002), or causing the biggest clash of all time by playing on the friday. i saw them at a farm in Tennessee called Bonnaroo and they were truly brilliant in 2007. the key would be giving them a full 90 mins though, at least.

"I am trying to break your heart" is not only the better of the dvd choices for learning about the band, but in itself is also one of the best songs ever written.

funny band Wilco. I like some of their stuff, like some of it a *lot*, but I never think to put them on, I never dash home cos I've half remembered a tune doing the day and want to listen to it.

Good band, verging on great, but me and them don't quite match up, damn shame, wish I could align with them.

In the like quite a lot, but not necessarily love yet camp aswell. Got a real soft spot for Radio Cure though. Delightful.

Would very much like to see them though. As said park headliners would fit. Would love to see Yo La Tengo headline the park this year aswell. Very much in the love camp for them. Just sublime.

They did a fair few from Being There at the Royal Festival Hall gig in September - in fact they always mix up the set a fair bit, even if the 90% of the set is Summerteeth material onwards. They're up there with the best live bands I've ever seen - surely if Nick Cave can sub-headline (not a dig) and The Fratellis can play third from the top of the Pyramid (most certainly a dig!), Wilco could play similar slots. I think headlining the Park would be the best option though - they'd probably get a small crowd like Midlake did, but the setting combined with passionate fans would make it quality. Given that Phil and Ed from Radiohead worked with members of Wilco on 7 Worlds Collide, maybe if they headline they could get them a slot like Flaming Lips' in 2003!

...and given that Billy Bragg will almost certainly be around again, they could revisit the mermaid avenue albums in Leftfield over the weekend...one can dream!

Paranoid Android: That Royal Festival Hall show was fantastic, but a bit of an exception I think - they do tend to stick to the tried and tested a bit too much - see WilcoBase: 107 shows since 1 Jan 2009, and they've played 6 songs at more than 100 of them. Maybe I'm only noticing because I've seen them so much recently, but there's definitely a lot of repetition, when I'd love to hear some of the more obscure songs.

Toilet Duck: Wikipedia suggests that Bragg and Wilco don't really get on anymore (and the collaboration was more Jay Bennett's idea than Jeff Tweedy's anyway). But then, I'm sure Wilco guested with BB at Glasto in 1999 [2000?], so who knows?

yeah, the stuff about tweedy and bragg is quite well known I think. if you watch the film 'man in the sand', tweedy comes across as a bit of a dick in places.

but I think BB and him have sort of made up now. Mermaid avenue was what, 15 years ago?
