I thought back then as a teenager they where one hit wonders and I've tried to think otherwise but their performance in 95 completely suggests that is the case on the tele anyway. it looked pretty shite until common people came on.

Ampersand hits the nail on the head there

Like any band innit, if you like them, then you know their songs. If that's not the case, then you won't know (m)any songs.

I can recognise, what? 20, 30 Pulp songs, mebbe more but wouldn't recogise a single song from e.g Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Biffy Clyro, whoever, cos I'm not a fan.

What guy's original comment? I quoted you.

I agree again with what you said. Pulp may have 2 big songs and 1 recognisable one (I assume you mean Common People, Disco 2000 and Babies respectably?) but that doesn't mean they're not suitable headliners.

Who cares about "the average bloke in the street"? Shouldn't we be more concerned about "the average person who buys a ticket for Glastonbury"? If we are then I'm pretty confident that you will find that they are not as ignorant as X-Factor Bob doing his shopping and that most would be able to name (wait for it) at least 4 (yes 4! Actually probably a hell of a lot more - never heard of Babies?!! Really? Educate yourself!) Pulp, Bruce AND NY songs.

No. I most definitely deny this.

Pulp were big in the UK in the 90's. In the 90's there wasn't a range of ways to access music as there is now and if you were a music fan, you probably listened to and watched mainstream MTV/Radio 1 et al. If you did, you would be familiar with at least 6 or 7 Pulp hits - probably more. I therefore find it incredible that a music fan doesn't know more than "2 big tracks and 1 recognisable one".

Unless of course you were born later than - say - 1982, in which case it may have passed you by whilst you were learning how to masturbate at the time.

So this "1 recognisable track" is Do You Remember The First Time?

What about Babies, Something Changed, Help the Aged, Mis-Shapes and Sorted for E's and Wizz?

The top 10 listened to Pulp tracks on Last.Fm are:

1. Disco 2000

2. Common People

3. Something Changed

4. Mis-Shapes

5. Babies

6. Underwear

7. Sorted for E's & Wizz

8. Pencil Skirt

9. Do You Remember The First Time?

10. I Spy
