Wasn't Maiden's previous festival show Reading 2005? Although yeah, they do tour pretty regularly.

And I didn't compare to AC/DC, I compared to RATM.

The headlined before their hiatus, and have grown in popularity since. And have far more quality than all the potential classic rock headliners you've mentioned. Ozzy's got a very hit-and-miss rep live, the Chilis suck now (reading 07 anyone?), Whitesnake have always sucked (and headlined recently), and Scorpions aren't big enough to headline.

Nah, dissagree. Seen whitesnake 4 times and thet are awesome live, seen em in 08 touring with def leppard and they truely did wipe te floor with em.

But then in 09 whitesnake were good but coverdale jst cdnt do it n def leppard blew em away. I thought def lep were awesome in 09.

Whitesnake will neva headline anything agen sadly.

Maiden played at download in 2007 as well, i've never really seen the appeal though, when I saw them it all seemed very dated, whereas metallica don't seem like they're living off past glories.

I'd love for tool to headline, but realistically speaking recognise that they wont shift as many tickets as others. Wouldn't suprise me if they booked pendulum to headline tbh.

Saw Metallica on the Death Magnetic tour and thought they were awesome and did a very varied set, unlike Maiden who i am a massive fan of seem to be a bit hit and miss lately mixing the old and the new instead of just giving fans the greatest hits which is what most people want.

The one group i would have liked to see headline would have been Judas Priest but they are at High Voltage

    • Orbital opening the Other stage is a bold choice!
    • Great start for them
    • Thanks so much - that's very helpful. Someone else mentioned getting a train from Loughborough to East Midlands Parkway, and then a festival shuttle from there to the site. I think they were then going to come back on the Skylink Derby to Loughborough - I assume this is because the trains don't run as late as the Skylink, otherwise they would just come back the same way they came?! Is the transport hub a long way from the main stage? Just wondering what time I would need to leave Linkin Park to be sure of getting a shuttle. As I say, I am sure it will all be clear on the day, even after a few beers! Just hope the rain stays away...
    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
