It turned into a giant paddling pool in June '05 because the ground was rock solid. It's rained quite a lot in Glastonbury over the past week so the ground has had time to soften up and drainage is much better.

sadly, that's well off the mark.

Yes, the hard ground didn't help in 2005, but nor did the very extreme amount of rain which was the major part of what happened that year.

The ground is clay soil, which doesn't drain well at any time. However, it drains better when the ground is dry than it does when it's wet - cos when it's already wet there's nothing to soak up new rain.

And let's not forget:

http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/forecast/uk/BA4

As I type this, the rain forecast is:

Wednesday: 0.9mm in total over 24 hours,

Then no rain from Thursday to Saturday,

Sunday: 1.2mm between 12 & midnight.

This is not a lot of rain at all. Brief showers here and there. i.e. a dry festival.

Here's more optimism:

I follow the weather a lot here in Ireland for watersports reasons. The nearest surf spot to Glasto is Porthcawl. MagicSeaweed is the most popular surf forecasting website around - it's predicting Sun on wednesday, & then brief showers on Thursday & Friday.

Brief showers are NO big deal.

Not only that but it makes browsing this site at work extremely difficult... Please stop posting pictures of breasts everyone. Or at least put them in their own separate thread so I'll know not to open it.

Like the positive vibes. Is Porthcawl really the closest spot? Would somewhere along the North Devon coast not be closer?? not gonna argue with the sunny weather though!!!

    • Regarding PinkPantheress: I watched the ending of The Cure from the back and then bolted straight to Cupra to save spots on the steps for my entire festival crew. Thus, we all had a good experience there. Sucks that not everybody got to properly see it, but it felt like something out of Glastonbury where those who showed up long in advance got to see a big artist on a smaller stage in good conditions.
    • Cracking debut album earlier this year
    • TOP 10 acts (top 5 in bold😞   Blood Orange (ciutat)   Guitarricadelafuente   Oklou - Looks like I'm capable of enjoying music in the rain after all, just not the whole night.   Rilo Kiley   The Cure   Jade   Depresión Sonora   Gelli Haha (Parc del Forum) - Her music never really clicked with me. Until I saw her live.   MARINA   Six Sex (ciutat) - I was shocked how supersmall the venue was and that almost everyone (except for me) knew every word of every song (including the ones that were released this weekend!).   Honorable mention:   Ashnikko - missed the first 15 minutes (because of Gelli Haha) and I'm not really a fan of her music, but the show was an absolute blast.
    • Totally agree about PinkPantheress stage choice. 'Luckily' for me, one of my main targets, fakemink, was absolutely awful, meaning that I left early and was in a surprisingly good spot at Cupra before it got totally packed.
