surely it can't be Kylie?

Totally agree, I'm sure she'd be great in the slot before the headliner but to me she seems weak as the main attraction. Other Stage headliner maybe.

If it was something like

U2

Radiohead

Kylie

I think it's clear to see the weak spot there

One of the biggest female solo artists of all time? Not much of a comparrison but what was the last hit Stevie Wonder had?

I'd like to point out in no way I'm I insinuating that Kylie is on par with Stevie but they both probably have as many popular hits.

I'd say Kylie's almost given to be there even if she's not headlining. I caught the end of an interview with her on the radio where they were talking about Glastonbury 2011 and her response to whether or not she would be playing was, 'we'll see,' in a sort of yes-but-I'm-not-really-meant-to-tell-anyone way, you could hear her smiling.

Personally I agree it wouldn't be the best choice for a headliner (for me Bjork would be magical and Gaga would certainly get the crowd going) but she got a pretty good response from her guest appearance this year (and even if you don't like her you have to admit she's got the hits) so who knows? Also the Eavises might feel that they have to give her the slot if she wants it because she had to drop out before(it wasn't as if she just couldn't be bothered, cancer's a pretty good excuse as far as they go).

I agree completely. Lady Ga-Ga, while I'm certainly not a fan and would miss, is much more of a massive worldwide artist who could take the rumoured female headline slot. Madonna, Beyonce, and that's about it really otherwise, i mean honestly, who else?. If you take a look at Kylie's popularity in the largest music market of the world, she can only play a 3000-5000 club venue, and that's just in NY City.

Kylie would be just so wrong in so many ways as a headliner. I'm fine with her on the bill, but just not as one of the 3 biggest supposed "draws" of the greatest music gathering on the planet.

I don't think Kylie has ever been particularly big in the USA, so I'm not sure the size of venue she plays there means much in any wider sense. But anyway ....

While I don't much disagree with the rest that you say, what you've missed from your take on things and which I feel is of huge relevance to whether she'd be booked as headliner or not (it'll have certainly have increased her chances) is the reaction she got this year. While I didn't see many acts on the Pyramid this year, the one who got the biggest reaction by a long shot (much bigger than Stevie) was ..... Kylie!

Acts are put on to please the audience. It seems clear that the Glastonbury audience would go wild for Kylie, even now when her commercial success has shrunk significantly from what it was. Alongside that fact, I'm not sure anything else gets to mean too much.

Whether she's been booked as headliner or not I don't know, but it's certainly not something I'd rule out.

I said 'advert' because that's exactly what it was. She was advertising Agent Provacateur lingerie.

She's not the first and won't be the last to profit from advertising revenue. Remember Molby's Play album being used in tons of commercials? Bob Dylan selling something or other? Kasabian's latest has been used on countless TV intros recently. But the worst offender has to be Iggy Pop and those bloody car insurance ads. He really did not need to sell out like that just when his career is at its peak in terms of revenue earning ability.

i take your point, and agree with it, but i think that's probably the reason why he did it: he's now viable to companies as an option to sell their products. why would he be asked when he's not so well known? they are irritating though.

i read an interview with Lydon recently when he was promoting his PIL tour where he bemoaned that nobody was asking him to advertise more now that he'd shown his 'style' could flog butter.

to a fan of their music it can be disappointing to see, but there you go.

anyway, thats my thread hi-jacking over.

Kylie? i don't care either way.

my point wasn't to do with her selling underwear, it's to do with promoting some of the most erotic underwear available, while not looking perticularly sexy

maybe it's me
