Michael Eavis has confirmed 2011 headline acts

that's a great lineup Wooderson, but i hope you won't be disappointed since you were pining for Take That not too long ago!!!

so the 2009 and 2011 headliners could be bigger than the much-hyped 40th anniversary. This is the kind of lineup I need to justify flying across the Atlantic with my wife likely to be preg with #2 by that time.

I think it's funny how of the 3 headliners mentioned in this article, the one that we pretty much can nail on is not the '2 that are confirmed' but the one with the band that has such an obvious Bonnarroo and Glastonbury gap waiting to be filled. Just as they did with Bruce and Stevie, B'Roo are jumping on the Glasto headliner pull.

This was from the Q Review mag i bought outside the festival on the monday afternoon..

"All 3 headliners are in place for glastonbury 2011"

Eavis said, "U2 are welcome to return but it wouldnt be in 2011"..."Ive no doubt that we'll be seeing them sometime"

"The deals are done: two of the headliners will be returning and one is a woman who has been before but never headlined. I cant say anymore because it gets me into trouble."

Q Review Page 6.

IMO It will be Coldplay, Radiohead and Beyonce. She was watching the Jay Z set from the wings IN 2008, which is my interpretation of what Eavis meant by, "One is a woman who has been before but never headlined", but it is a tad vague..

Friday---U2

Saturday---Kyle

Sunday---Radiohead.

Lets hope that on Saturday and Sunday there is someone good on on the other stage.

Yup, that's my bet (presuming you mean Kylie and not Kyle [whoever that might be]).

It seems pretty clear that the two acts signed up already are two of the acts (or bits of them) that performed this year.

And before this year, from what Michael had said, I wouldn't have said Kylie. But given that her cameo with Scissor Sisters probably got the biggest reaction of the weekend, it's shown her as more than able to headline even tho she's not had much in the way of commercial success in recent years.

But maybe I'm way off the mark. The digging starts here. :)

i could see that. but with kylie being on site this year, i'd guess it's more than likely that she's been signed up there and then.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking - tho not that they were "signed up" at the fest, but that a convo was had where it was tentatively agreed to happen.

6 weeks on, there's been time to get back to the acts &/or their agents, and get a firmer agreement in place. I doubt things have got as far as being fully contracted as yet.

i think it perfectly fits. if you could bet on her headlining any day, i'd shove a lot on it. but not confident it would be the saturday.

I'd go with the Sunday for her. Eavis prefers the Sunday act to be the most "pop" of the headliners, because the locals expect an act they're familiar with, and give him stick when he's out and about if they don't get one.

In fact, that has a lot to do with why Kylie was booked years ago (tho didn't end up playing because of her cancer treatment). The year before had had Muse as Sunday headliner, and Eavis had got an awful lot of stick about it. Kylie was booked for the following year to placate them.

I was just wandering, do you know which legal firm does the contractual work for Glastonbury or even advises on the licensing etc etc. I'm studying law at university and would like to be involved in media (preferably music) law, would be good to take a look at the firm which does the contracts.

I'm not entirely sure, but believe an amount of it (if not all of it) is handled for the fest by Ben Challis - he runs Glastonbury TV, and is a (visiting?) lecturer in Music Business Management at the uni in High Wycombe (I forget what it's called) and perhaps other uni's. And when I was in a legal dispute with Glastonbury many years ago (which was resolved amicably in the end) it was Ben that was handling things.

The licencing side of things is handled at the top end by Melvin Benn of Festival Republic (who brings along his own brief to licence hearings if he feels the brief is needed), tho I believe a good amount of the groundwork is done internally by GF.

Sounds like it will be Kylie and U2.The other one is very much up for debate don't you think? Isn't radiohead rumoured as headliner every year?
