Just realised I stayed for 6 songs - longer than I thought I lasted. I knew every song, knew who the special guests were, and the ones after I left (after seeing it on tv). No intro to the band needed for me - still thought it was, after Coldplay, the dullest big show Ive ever seen at Glasto. Total style over substance, no depth to it at all and poor showmanship. Everyone was bored, people chatting around us etc. Never seen that before at Glastonbury. The fact two of the Clash are in the band makes no odds to me at all, nor do the special guests he brought out. Its just wrapping paper and makes it easy for people to say "Oh he came out and did a song, then xxxxxx came out and did one" blah blah etczzzzzz.

Remember the Neil Young conversations on here last year? About him doing a weird set with loads of stuff the nerds would love but not the festival crowd? You werent saying "yeah play a weird show" then. Nobody was.

Bottom line - it was a dull show - beefed up by some special guests who cant sing (they literally couldnt have picked three worse singers - in the traditional sense - than Mark E, Ryder and Reed) for the watching Beeb public (majority of whom also fit into the "ignorance and dumbed down music culture" bracket.) Its the biggest miss of Damons career (I think hes hopelessly overrated anyway) and that whale song nonsense being one of the most cringing things to ever happen on the Pyramid Stage. (After Rod Stewart obviously).

Its a festival show. There were children at this show, small children. Do you have zero sympathy for the small kids becuase they're not big into the Fall?

Gorillaz played practically all their best stuff Nal. Thousands of people enjoyed it. It wasnt perfect of course but I couldnt expect them to do anything more.

The show itself will never be repeated - it was one of the most unique & special gatherings in the history of the fest and it sounded great to MANY people's ears.

What exactly about this do you not understand?

Lou Reed sauntering out was the Glasto moment for me this year. He wasn't particularly good but just watching him walk out was quite an unreal moment.

(apologies to anyone who's never heard of Lou Reed  )

It's staggering to think the talent that was on stage during the Gorillaz set.

I have been on both sides of this debate as stated many times, I have never said I was a massive Gorillaz fan and therefore did not know what to expect. I did not know who was on stage throughout the set, I recognised Mark E Smith, Shaun Rider and Snoop dog, the rest, did not have a clue. However for me, personally in my personal singular opinion, it was a great set and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Simple.

Now that does not sit well with you, as you thought it was shit, however the truth is that is your opinion and does not matter to me as you are not an expert on my musical taste but I totally respect yours. What does matter is that you seem to want to tell me and others what Glastonbury is about, that is where you must draw the line and say, "yeah well you know what I dont know what floats your festival boat but for me Glastonbury is this.... in my humble opinion"

Quite the opposite.

I'm making that assumption (and it is an assumption) based on the people around me at the gig, the number of people who left, the crush to get away from the pyramid field, the reviews afterwards and the survey which was done on here.

To extrapolate from this thread would be silly, especially as I think the percentage of people who enjoyed the gig on here seems higher than that which would be representative of the opinions of the crowd at the gig (as gleaned from the above).

At the end of the day it doesn't matter whether more people liked or disliked the gig as we're all entitled to our opinions, I would have thought?

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
