Did anybody see/hear of any? on the motorway or on entry?

There was a thread on here about police pulling people off the motorway in to M5 Michaels wood services, can anyone confirm this?

We left the M5 and avoided that area just to be safe.

We were told there were police carrying out stops when you get near the site too - we travelled from Stoke and Manchester - didn't see any police until in the site

It could just be rumours - I know they're at castle carey and paddington, but the rest might just be bs

This was the one year I didn't take anything with me too, didn't wanna risk it now I have a proper fulltime job

Saw a guy who had been stopped by 2 policemen near Avalon on Wed afternoon. He looked a bit unsteady on his feet (which may be why they had stopped him) and one of the coppers was holding up this bag of grass saying 'but what I need is some sort of explanation of what this is'.

The poor guy was just pleading asking them to give him a break as that bag was going to last him the whole festival and couldn't they just let him off this once. He clearly wasn't going to get anywhere, but to give the police their due they were not heavy-handed and seemed to have a sense of humour about it. Their attitude was sympathetic but it was clear they were going to do their job.

The rumours about what the police are doing in terms of off site policing come around each Glastonbury...

Even if A&S did say 'yup, this year we were at X Y Z', then there is no guarantee the same thing happens in 2011......

I saw 5 or 6 police arrest 2 guys and a girl in the stone circle and marched them off in cuffs carrying a small carrier bag of something. Everyone booed

This was the first year that I didn't see any police at Temple Meads train station in Bristol. That might have been because I went on Thursday though, I imagine they were there on the Wednesday though.

It never fails to amaze me how low the police presence is when travelling to and from the festival. Lets face it if the old bill had a major roadblock operation either Tuesday,Wednesday or Monday morning on all routes in and out they would have a field day. But, its almost as if they know, taking onboard the Glasto spirit themselves and saying "Look we know the majority of you are well and truly spannered but just this once we're going to leave you alone, but for gawds sake look after yourselves"!

Like Lord Eavis once said, "This place is like a release valve for the country".

It is clear that the police need to be seen to be actively targetting organised criminals who come to the festival with the intention only of profit, hell if I had my way we'd lock up ALL the capitalists:p

Thats good to know but why (and not that I want to encourage any over zealous policing) the slackness nowadays whereas pre2000 there seemed like roadblocks on every corner even on the A303 many miles away. Is it really a case of using the festival as some kind of nice friendly police advertising campaign?
