What is it about this particular year...

Before you all start worrying this isnt a whinge about the fest!

Its obvious that quite a few people feel 'weird' and 'strange' and 'apathetic' and just basically 'meh' in their feelings towards this years festival.

BUT I think I might know why...if you will let me say so...

Basically as I posted in the Apathy thread...which amusingly in a very apathetic way died a total death and is in the cemetery of page 6 or further now...

Glastonbury 2010.

Its now the fourth in the current cycle isnt it? Hence a lot of us that are probably on our 4th visit in as many years arent 'feeling' it quite as manically and excitedly as we usually would yes?

So my simple conclusion is this - if you go to the same place on holiday every year for years on the trot, regardless of where it is in the world, you are not going to be as excited as the year before are you?

Is this the case for us and the G this year? We know what to expect. We are so used to going and probably have everything ready to go in the loft that its not a mad effort planning and so on? Just grab the gear and go and get to the Cider Bus for 6pm and catch up with everyone we know and love.

I think we are just comfy and happy. Glastonbury 2010 in its 40th year is the warm slippers and the old sofa you can fall so easily into hence no need to get excited.

Its going to be MARVELLOUS this year without the panic, the manicness and just 5 full and wonderful days of friendship and fun.

BUT as I said in the Apathy thread, every city has something new to go and see. SO seek out the changes and the tweaks. The new eateries, the clubs, the architecture. It happends in Venice, New York and Paris...its the same at the G.

I love you all and cant wait to see you for that first pint at the Bus next Wednesday all with RIDICULOUSLY LARGE SMILES ON OUR FACES AND NOT ONE FEELING OF MEH BETWEEN US because we are back in our rightful home, place and sanctuary.

First time for me, all my mates went last year while i was away travelling the world and they keep saying to me

"Dirty Dave I cant wait to see your face when you get there, your jaw will be on the floor with all the surprises"

I am very excited and have been for the last month, boring my mates with loads of pointless info about Glasto. I originally thought they weren't that bothered this year, as they didnt seem that excited, but as the days slowly creep closer they are all getting giddy!!

Do you reckon they will take another break then next year (2011)?

A lot of truth in this. For my part, I feel more worried about what it will be like after the festival, when I've nothing like it to look forward to or aim for. I do rather rely on things to look forward to in order to get me though the crap days, of which there have been many this year.

On this note then, may I be the first to officially open the 'will I get a ticket thread' for October

I actually even feel a little nervous - must be the first time for many years - perhaps its the weather, hoping all the plans fall into place, meeting up with people etc. Dunno - perhaps I rely on Glastonbury a little too much for distraction over the year.

It will still be the incredible time that it always is, of that I have no doubt and every faith.

I am looking forward to this year, but I do understand what Lucy is saying. This is our 4th year and I thought that I wouldn't be as excited as usual but I am!

We have no other festivals or holidays booked this year, so perhaps that is I am looking forward to it as much as I am.

People might be a little unorganised with the packing and preparations, but I think once this weekend is over the excitement will kick in as it draws ever closer! :)

I was feeling all apprehensive just before Bearded Theory the other week but what was funny despite almost turning around as I entered the car parks, as soon as that wristband was on the wrist it was like a cataclysmic shift of 'WHAT THE f**k WAS I THINKING???' as I became totally functioning human beans once again cos I is in a festival field.

THIS particular festival field in Zummerzet is the reason for existing for so many of us.

Lucy is going to Glasto this year...not the Luscious one (although that mad bitch might appear for a short while once the H&S is flowing, apologies in advance folks). And I am going to have a bloody excellent time.

Dare I say it, probably cause I have a better time at some other festivals some years plus I tend to do a lot of festivals.

That plus I have done a few this year so far and got lots more to look forward to so just don't get the same excitement as maybe someone who only does one or 2 festivals each year.

Can't say I have been overly excited this year, but am sure once I leave tomorrow for Solstice with a dozen other eFesters, the Glastobating will go up a level and time Wednesday comes I will be drooling for the cider bus :P

As you say, we'll wonder what on Earth was the cause of any hesitation or aprehension once we step into those green fields. Perhaps its just the effect of the nearing transition that we must all soon undergo from one reality to the other . . .

I'm still a bit meh about it as it won't be the same as last year (going with different people and have to be sensible on Sunday due to exam couple of days after), but I think I'll be a bit more excited once I'm on the way there. Then I'm like a kid at Christmas :D

I will be honest with you, i really couldnt be any more excited if i tried as its my first ever time to Glastonbury. I only got told i had a ticket two weeks ago (my girlfriend got it in April and kept it as a suprise)so pretty much havent slept since and having two young children i dont get chance very often to just sit round for five days getting drunk.

Which is not a shame at all as I can be with my friends all weekend and have a lovely time instead of feeling upset and sad whilst working. Worry ye not...the crumpets are still on site, just without their bustiest and loveliest Strumpet anymore.

I think the sales of tickes back in (October?) may have had an impact on entusiasim. In the old days it was first Sunday in April, then rush to get stuff together and time off for some 11 weeks later. It just added to the urgancy.

I am personaly not bouncing round the walls like previous years (but I am recovering from playing a Pirate for the public at the last bank holiday http://www.scurvyscum.com/home.htm old uni mates dragged me along) and I am looking forward to a damned good holiday away from the reality of day to day life (full time job and i'm a part time carer, trust me, I need the escape!) with some of the finest entertainment on the planet laid on with some damned fine company (you lot, and YES, I don't get out much! :P )

Once that tent is pitched, the bed roll is laid out and that first cuppa is inside me, I'm just going to go where the fancy takes me, follow my nose (food) and ears (glorious rackets), do some shopping, over indulge. I'm quietly enjoying the fact that it is not manic this year!

The default plan as always is to pick 3 bands each day on different stages at very differnt times of the day and expect not to see any of them B)
